After recently having my car towed out of a visitor spot in an apartment complex, (I was given a refund by the apartment complex) I was wondering if the myths about how to prevent your car from being towed are true i.e. turning your wheels all the way to one side, putting a 4WD vehicle in hi/low 4WD mode, parking brake engaged, and installing hydraulic brake locks. Curious about what everyone comes up with

It all depends on how serious the tow truck driver is. Remember these trucks are used to tow away cars that have been seriously damaged in a wreck. Generally, it's not a good idea to make it hard for them. If they have to use dollies for instance, that charge will be passed on to you. The other reason is that they may break something. If you have ever tried to get a towing company to pay for damage to your car, you will know that it's often not easy.

seems stupid to try to stop them

they will just call a trailer type tow truck and "accidently" ruin your car

There's not anything to stop them. They will drag it out, putting flat spots on your tires, or use dollies to counter your efforts to leaving your tires turned.

Unusually, nobody has suggested that you arrange for the car to explode when anyone approaches it.

That was the Lotus' "Anti-Theft Device" in "For Your Eyes Only".

Once, when my grandfather was at the local yatch club, there was a Jaguar blocking the enterance. At the time, he was driving a truck with a wooden bumper, so he lined up the bumpers and drove, with all sorts of screeching and grinding sounds coming from the gearbox and to this day he does not know what happened to that Jaguar.
