Hey Adam, Jamie, and Others
Great show loved the Father's Day marathon, best stuff on TV. That ejection seat was sweet.
Noticed the diesel. I think its time America busted the dirty diesel myth. If there is anyway Diesel Power magazine could help just ask. I believe there is a diesel solution to every problem. (I might be a little bias).
The next myth is related considering diesel fuel has a lot of hydrogen in it. We could check brake specific fuel consumption instead of doing road tests. Also we need to consider adding the heat that was originally wasted. We could build a small steam engine to run off the waste heat it could power the hydrogen machine. We will need a dyno. Also consider a drive shaft alternator and solar panels.

You do know that "Diesel Diaries" isn't acutally part of the show, right? That is to say, those are commercials, not myths.

Commercials can be myths.

No quote: Commercials can be myths.
they can't since they are hype to sell a product that can do what they claim or may not. They are not myths. What is done on commercials and movies and TV and in books comics and cartoons are not myths. They are special effects, not that they aren't fun to see if some can really be done in real life. myth–noun 1. a traditional or legendary story, usually concerning some being or hero or event, with or without a determinable basis of fact or a natural explanation, esp. one that is concerned with deities or demigods and explains some practice, rite, or phenomenon of nature.

That definition is narrow.
The United States believes gas is better than diesel. We should look at that belief and see if its a myth. Myths don't have to be unbelievable they just need to be false.

I wasn't commenting on the validity of this as an idea for the show, I was pointing out that the "Diesel Diaries" seen on the show are commercials that happen to feature the build-team. The intent is to make them appear to be part of the show; they are not. Much like Mike Rowe does Ford commercials during Dirty Jobs.

Oh I see thanks for clearing that up.

I've got a 1987 Ford F-250 with an International 6.9L Indirect Injection diesel engine. The great thing about this engine is its inefficient. Well at least the way it is set up now. Since it is indirect injection it has two combustion chambers this makes for more surface area that the heat can sink into at least compared to a direct injection engine. This is great for this test because we want more heat.
Many people don't look at the big picture. Energy input divided by work output. It is simple really. If you use big words and equations to explain a problem you probably don't have a good command of the subject.

Ruffingguy are you serious?
"There is very little that can be done to raise the engine's efficiency from 25-30%"
You sound like the guy who said flight and nuclear energy was impossible.
I've seen reports that say anywhere from 20-30% of the total energy is lost to heat. Would you agree that heat is energy?

I think you got that last one in the wrong thread. I'm guessing you meant it for the "Enough already with water-4-gas....", right (which I just realized is locked... never mind!)?
I wouldn't expect a reply from Roofingguy. He got fed up with this place and left several months ago.

I got this letter from someone at Cyclone:
Thank you for your interest in the Cyclone Engine Technology. I have attached the information on our Cyclone WHE and as you can see at 60MPH a diesel will provide enough waste heat to produce over 6KW, which you could use to power all of the accessories and cab comforts and charge batteries which would save you HP by using the WHE to power these devises instead of the main engine. We can also put a small combustion chamber on our WHE and burn diesel and meet emissions when the main engine is turned off. So you save two ways 1. With using less fuel by driving all of your accessories from the waste heat and 2. Meeting emissions and idle reduction laws when the main engine is down.
We are a small R&D company and are doing Beta site testing of the WHE engine however, all of these sites are paying us to do so. At this time we do not have the funding to do a test vehicle. It would be a good test and we appreciate your understanding of the technology for this application
If you have any thoughts on how we could get this done it would be appreciated.
