If a misquito bites you and you flex the mussle that the misquito is on will it pop?

The mosquito or the muscle? I believe neither.

As mosquitoes carry diseases, it's folly to wait for one to get well and truly involved in the act before killing it.

I guess he's asking that if a mosquito were biting you and you flexed you muscle would the sudden inrush of blood to the mosquito cause it to burst. No it would not.

I have heard this myth also(and tried it, to no avail, getting a misquito to bite in the bicep is hard). However, though I am doubtful, I still wonder if done with someone with good strong biceps, using "clean" misquitos- from a biomedical supply lab(to insure safety) this is a very doable myth that is plausible until busted.
Are the Mythbusters upto is the question!

Just how far do you think the mosquito is inserting its proboscis? I don't think it would get anywhere near the actual muscles of the bicep on even the best of days.

My 8yr (9 in 3 days) old boy would love to see this tried on Mythmisters. He has been asking me to post this for months now. I think it has MythBusters written all over it. It's well known (eveyone I know at least). It's gross! There is an explosion (be it a small one)! It would look extreamly cool on high speed video! What more could an almost 9 year old want! (Ok... the 40 something Dad might think it was cool as well!!) Big Grin

Yeah, I've wanted to see this one tested too! Although, I think the idea is that the mosquito has to bite into a major vein/artery, not just the muscle.

I could see this being tested by using sterile mosquitoes (as mentioned above) and putting rubber over all of the arm except for where the mosquito would need to bite.

Please test this, Mythbusters! I would love to see it!

If you think it would pop b/c of the rush of blood, I think you might be mistaken...
When a mosquito "bites" you it doesn't just suck your blood, it also regurgitates whats already in it's belly(?)...
