A friend of mine who is way into conspiracies keeps talking about a fluoride conspiracy. The conspiracy, from what I’ve seen online, revolves around fluoride being used to dumb down the populace. Supposedly, it doesn’t have any medical benefit such as dentists and such would have you believe. Queue the dramatic music here. I guess dentists are all in on it. Anyway, it would be kind of cool to see if there is anything to this. I know that they would probably be torture to test out. I don’t want to eat a tube of toothpaste per day for a month and take various tests all the time. There’s a ton out there (and I mean out there) on this. “Google it” as the kids say.

Ask your friend to use a little critical thinking here.

Flouride is proven to help prevent various problems with teeth.

If dentists had a conspiracy, it would be to eliminate the flouride, since that cuts their business.

Your friend sounds like a conspiracy loon. Probably has all kinds of entertaining ideas, none of which are based in reality.

yeah, think about all the other stuff people ingest that does make them dumb. tell your friend to brush their teeth

What I'd like to see is confirmation of the things that are safely and somewhat immediately testable.

Does flouride harden teeth?
Is flouride toxic? (In a more general sense)
At what levels does a typical person ingest flouride?
Is it toxic at these levels?
At what levels does it become harmful or deadly?

Fluoride is a toxic byproduct of aluminum manufactoring (notice the word (Toxic)) and yes this is the same flouride they use in your toothpaste and water. also you might be interested to know that its also used in pesticides.

1) this is something i have researched for years, so i didnt just fall for a bunch of alarmist baloney.
2) last i checked if i drank more than 5 ppm of pure water it wounldnt kill me.
3a) there not shock links, there there to provive you with information.
3b)evidently you never bothered to read the information provided, if you did then you totaly skipped the part where it says that its not from just one source, you have water,toothpaste,rinces etc. and you ignored the part that says any flouride that enteres your system stays in your bones for 6 years, assuming you could quarintean yourself from all exposure.

Funny thread though, it reminds me of when my school did fluoride treatments on all of the students... my parents were dead against it, with the idea that it would give us cancer.

Very rich. I am simply saying that if you want to be taken seriously, the conspiracy theories about some huge covert effort to dumb down the populace aren't going to lend credence to your cause.

I am not making personal attacks on you. I am saying that a persons ability to spell and communicate effectively are usually a good indicator of overall intelligence.

I recommend consulting a doctor because while they may not be scientists, they seem to have a little bit of expertise in how different drugs and substances affect the human physiology.

But if it makes you feel better, my wife is an analytical chemist who specializes in drug research and she knows that you are wrong too.

evidently you misunderstood my effort to provide information to the OP. I do not support the idea that there is a big conspiracy to dumb down the populace, im saying that (one) person said "yes, i have the perfect thing to help cure everybodys teeth problem" dispite the evidence to the contrary.

the past 100 years are full of chemicles that have been pulled because at one point in time they were ok to use and risk free only to learn that they are very bad for your health. phen phen, perhaps lead ring any bells? oh I see the problem, we should have run the stuff by your wife, that way they would have been ok.
