Yeah, this one's never going on the show, but I figured it'd be fun to bring up.
Hi, I'm theodidactus, a future research librarian specializing in the history of science, with a particular emphasis on astronomy and chemistry.
Alchemy has always been an interest of mine. Unlike a lot of "oogie boogie" stuff, you can find a good number of alchemists that list a repeatable step-by-step process and claim testable results, so the door is open for scientific testing (though i don't expect the results would be particularly surprising). Still it'd be fun to see people playing with acids and heavy metals.
I've always wanted to "re-enact" a recipe just to see what would really happen, unfortunately, almost everything the alchemists screwed around with was toxic, corrosive or explosive...then again, that's kind of what we do here right?
I practically live in the libraries of my city, which are chock full of rare books listing no-frills alchemical recipies without a lot of the pseudoscientific gunk...they can be posted here if curious.
But, the main reason I'm posting is just to say hi and see if anyone else out there has the same interest.
