Living here in the Midwest, white-tailed deer collisions are prominent. Someone ingeniously thought of a stick-on whistle applied to vehicles that scares deer from the roadway before the car comes within range. I've always told my friends that they are wasting their money. Any idea if these do in fact frighten deer enough to prevent a collision?
Deer are a problem here in the Appalachian Mountains too. Question about the whistle? Do you literally blow into it? If so, how would you have time to find it and blow into it before you would collide with the deer, other than holding it while you drive or have it hanging by your face.
im a deer hunter, they get spooked so easily sometimes, it also depends on what age they are and how often they encounter traffic. did you ever have a deer in front of you that wouldn't move, they get caught in a daze when they see cars. have you ever honked your horn at them they don't move! how would a little whistle make a difference a car horn is much louder.

A deer whistle is a whistle that is mounted somewhere (usually on the front bumper or to the grill) on the front of the vehical. As the vehical moves forward, wind blows through the whistle, which is what makes the whistle function. I have heard that because deer are curious creatures, the noise the whistle makes can actualy attract the deer instead of keeping them away.

That will better your odds but it won't make you unreachable by the deer. I've seen with My own eyes, and My Nephew had this happen to Him. A deer in both cases, ran into the side of the car/truck. I watched this deer run across a field in Northern Lower Pennisula of michigan. It clearly was not going to get to the road in time to be a danger to Me but when it did make it to the road, as I watched in my rear-view mirror. The deer looked like it tried to hit it. Perhaps it was a miserably failed attempt to jump over, but the deer jumped straight into the side of the truck.
