The myth is, there are a few different ways to get rid of warts. Apparently, you can put a piece of a banana peel over your wart and it will go away. The same thing applies with black electrical tape over the wart. I think the main point is that there is no light hitting the wart. Give it a shot, it works!!!!

Getting rid of a wart can occur in many ways. The 2 most common are cutting it out (very traumatic and damages the surrounding tissue) or irritiating the tissue around it enough to where the body will kill the virus causing it and gets rid of the wart slowly (your duct tape, acid, freezing, etc works this way). It has nothing to do with 'exposure to light'.
