I learned in Organic Chemistry that it is relatively simple to make home-made bioiesal that actually runs an automobile and is fairly environmental friendly. If you guys could prove this on the show it would be awesome. - thanks Andrew

They already did this. They got used cooking oil, filtered it, and ran a diesel car off of it, no other refining, just a mesh screen. The car ran fine and got about 5-10% less mileage than regular diesel. FYI, there is another show on discovery called Dirty Jobs and he did an episode about a guy who makes his own biodiesel in his garage, from used cooking oil.

Bambutu: what they used on the show wasn't biodiesel. It was WVO (waste vegetable oil). Biodiesel is a vegetable oil derived ester, much better in the long run than straight oil. Whoop88: you have to remember that biodiesel only works on DIESEL engines. If you want to learn more about it, here's a site where you'll find a ton of information, from its chemistry to ways to produce it at home: http://journeytoforever.org/biodiesel.html
