this myth about the famous lean that "Michael Jackson" dose from his song,Smooth Criminal. but can you do the trick in real life without rope?

He has infact done it in live-shows..

In other words, the shoes grab onto little knobs jutting from the stage and act as an anchor so that regardless of what angle MJ leans at, so long as he can recover, he wont fall over.

If he goes as far as 90 degrees to either side then he might as well just lay down on the stage and forget the shoes...
