We manage commercial real estate and I have been marveling at how frequently CF lights and ballasts must be replaced. My thought is that many of the "green" ideas are actually costing us more money in the "total cost of ownership" picture. While I am sure the bulbs use less power than a bulb that is constantly illuminated, when one factors in the cost of the ballasts and bulbs (due to increased wear and tear from starting up more frequently) I am curious if there is indeed a cost benefit to using motion sensors and the like.
