In an episode of the Simpsons, Bart puts a beer can in a paint can shaker. When Homer opens it, it explodes and he is hospitalized. Is this remotely possible?

"April Foo-" kaboom! that was classic.

I'm gonna go ahead and guess no, because carbonation (CO2) is not healthy for a flame, opposed to oxygen. You're also releasing a small amount of CO2 when you open a can. If you're really concerned about your carbon footprint, you shouldn't drink soda, beer, or even exhale for that matter.

There really isn't any oxygen in soda or beer last time i checked, so I doubt the alcohol in the beer would ignite, plus the room temperature would have to be hot enough to melt the can before it would ignite the alcohol in the beer.

that was a funny episode though. i miss the simpsons...

I didnt really mean an actual explosion, but like explosive decompression i guess (im not sure if thats the right phrase but whatever.) Like if you shake up a soda bottle, when you open it the soda bubbles up and bursts out of the bottle. but if you shake it up with a paint shaker, will it burst out even more? That's kinda what i was askin' about.
