I would really like to see a fireworks special. I just want to make sure no stone has been left unturned in the quest to have mythbusters blow stuff up.
There is a myth involving firefighters and fireworks. You'll need buster for this one . While passing a mortar with live product in it the firefighter checking the shoot site ......his helmet is on and his chin strap is in place...his head is not over the mortar just the lip of his helmet......suddenly the mortar fires ....the shell catches the lip of the helmet and snaps the neck of the firefighter.....now aren't the chin straps designed with a break away?????
Next..... Mortars .....which can be made from HDPE,cardboard,steel,fiberglass,aluminum....will react differently on land and in water........supposedly ( and only HDPE or fiberglass mortars) when a mortar ( use 3" shell follow the NFPA guidelines for mortar) is floated on water....simply put through a peice of foam board with a metal band to hold the bottom of the mortar .....will give you an added increase in height because water does not compress therefore the mortar cannot bow out when the lift charge goes off and height is gained......the mortar supposedly stays in position and is not driven down into the water. On the other hand if a mortar is buried in place it will be driven down ( soft sand) everytime it's reloaded and shot from .....this mortar is not blocked at the bottom ( for effect)( mortars do need to be blocked at the bottom when buried) So on land in an open rack =certain height. Buried in the ground = greater height. In water = maximum height.( yeah right!!!) this would have to be done with varying sizes of shells and also only with fiberglass and HDPE.
In the commercial that shows shells breaking in linear heights from left to right .....where left is short and right is high......to denote signal stregth of a cellular phone .........can this be done for real.....you'd have to vary lift charge and time fuse to accomplish this but I just figure I want to see you guys do it for real.
Another one is if the angle of the mortar drops below a certain angle a shell would travel further ......supposedly more on water than on land.....like skipping a stone . The distance increases when on water versus land.
The other involves helmets with face shields like those found on gardening and or lumber jack helmets. Supposedly the mesh face shield is dangerous because is captures and contains the stars or inserts from fireworks and burns the wearer. people are saying that the person without the mesh shield is safer because the stars /inserts cannot get trapped. The person with the face sheild and the person without a shield both have safety glasses on and full protective clothing. So everyone is saying a plain helmet with no rim is safer than one with a mesh shield????
This one is a little further off the wall ......in a movie .....old spaghetti western ......a cannon is loaded with a black powder charge and then the good guy not using cannon balls loads sticks of dynamite( tied together) into the barrel and procedes to fire the cannon and propelling the dynamite thusly destroying his enemy's.....C'mon????.....just a movie right???......is this for real???
This is a good one .......right after viewing a fireworks show....( especially when there is no wind and the smoke collects into a still cloud)..... you have to shower and change clothes because the residue (from the show) will set off the detectors at the airport.
The touchy one would be the Linear Shell firing .....don't want to show too much....have a great day
