Do people really experience a "bad luck curse" if they remove lava rocks from the Hawaiian Islands?

Sure. It can cause surfing wipe-outs, spiders in beach-totes, wall-hangings to fall...
Oh wait, that's the curse from removing tiki-idols, not lava rocks.

I have never been to Hawai'i, but I have heard and read several things that people who have taken home (to the main land) either lava and/or sand. There are reports that Hawai'i receives a large amount of rocks and sand returned everyday. I do not "believe" in curses, but it might not be a good idea to upset Madam Pele. The so called curse in only in one's mind, but sometimes that is all that is needed.

The National Park Service also tries to sell that same superstition in Arizona, to stop people from taking artifacts from the Petrified Forest. They even used to have a display under glass, which was a collection of letters supposedly written by people who took a piece of petrified wood, suffered the promised run of bad luck, and then sent the stolen item back to the park with a letter of apology, to get rid of the "curse".
I think all the letters were actually written by Park Service employees.
