Mythbusters
Shooting the pier all the down the middle Back in the 80’s when we had the El Nino that destroyed much of the CA Coast. I was a young Jr Lifeguard at San Clemente Pier. I heard that the Lifeguards were out at the end of the peir with body boards (boogie boards). They timed a 20+ wave and jumped off the end and did a 180 and land on the face of the wave and shot (surfed in between the pilings) right down the center length of the entire pier.
No idea if it’s true but I do think it’s possible. The hardest part would be the jump and wave landing. Then manage to stay going almost perfectly straight for 150 yards ?. This will be especially difficult on the white wash, it tends to bounce you around.
I run a surf school, UniversityofSurfing.com in Pacifica. In fact, I was at the printer next store to you and he mentioned you guys were next store. I’m a long time big fan. Anyhoo, I have always told people about people about this myth and I never thought of you guys proving it somehow until I stood outside you door. If this sounds fun I would love to hear from you guys. I have shot Pacifica and San Clemente Piers numerous times. I even straighted out and went up one last season but then quickly got out. I have never hit but I assume it could be pretty bad, barnicles and all. And all the old fishing crap, crab rope and more. If there is any other way myself of my surf school can work with you guys I would love to hear from you. I’m really proud of what we do here and most people don’t realize how amazing amazing surfing is. You don’t need to goto warm water to get your wave count, wetsuits rule.
