Putting a brick in the tank will decrease then amount of water in the tank and then amount of water used in a flush but it will also decrease the effectiveness of a flush.
The Mythbusters do not do product tests.

Using a brick is a bad idea; some will dissolve and clog your toilet.
Use a ziploc bag full of water; it takes up the same space and won't hurt your plumbing.

I've got one. pouring enough water into your toilet (after using it) will make it flush. maybe they'll put that one on the show... (P.S. i haven't done it yet...)

Having survived the California drought of the '70s, we had to use buckets of gray water to flush the toilet.
Yes, it works.
