I was watching NCIS and heard the character of Abby saying that they found a bullet from a 20 cal pistol lodged in a bullet from a 40 cal pistol. I think this would be a really cool myth to test. What do you think? Love the show and am a big fan. Keep the myths coming.

NCIS is filled with errors when it comes to firearms and ballistics. Take NOTHING you see on there even remotely seriously. Just enjoy the show for entertainment.

Of course you could put a smaller bullet into a larger one. just get out your drill and go for it. The question is why would you want to?

Were they talking about a .22RF CARTRIDGE?

If .308 Win and 7.62 Nato can be the same (well, almost), then the 5mm Remington can become .20 rimfire.

Not that I've ever heard it called that.

The scenario on NCIS was that one characters daughter in law had shot 2 men intent on kidnapping her.

She shot them with a .22 rifle, several times to each man.

They lived in Mexico and the father in law didn't want the Federales investigating his daughter in law and possibly jailing her and taking her away from his granddaughter.

So he covered up her part in the shootings, by firing his .45 into each of the .22 bullet wounds to destroy evidence of the .22 having been used and he took the blame for the shootings.

He also placed the bodiesw in a sailboat and sailed them up the coast on a course that would send them into a US Naval station so that NCIS would have to investigate and not the Mexican Federales. (this character was a former NCIS agent and the boat was a gift from the current NCIS lead investigator)

During her part of the investigation, Abby found that 1 of the .45 bullets had collided with 1 of the .22 bullets that remained in the body and the 2 bullets had sort of stuck together. (not fused as she was able to pull them apart after figuring out there were 2 seperate bullets)

Long story short, this and other evidence led to the discovery that the father in law was trying to protect his daughter in law and that she actually had done the shooting.

Self defense, prtecting her child and everyone went home happy. Wink

interesting idea. but once a bullet contacts anything theres no way to predict where it will end up. even if the .45 flew down the same exact line the .22 did it would steamroll right over the .22 being that the hole was already there.

i wouldnt mind seeing this tried on TV but hey im a fan.
