Can a gun be shot from a gun in an area that contains no air, if so what would happen?

Good trick, if you can do it...

Yes, it can.. The rounds has their own oxidizer in the gunpowder, and is sealed.. No external oxygene needed...
The bullets would travel just as well as on earth, just farther since there is no air resistance.

The OP never mentioned firing a bullet from a gun in space....

Sorry, i meant to say can a gun be shot in an area with conditions like that of on the moon not a gun being shot from a gun

OOOOHHHHH, in that case, sure, a gun can be fired in space, just as CitizenGKar states.

And less gravity to pull it down.

Correct.. 1/6th earth gravity infact..

Thank you Captain Obvious. :P In all seriousness, the best thing you can do as a new person here is use the FIND function every chance you get. I guarantee you, every idea you come up with for a new thread is actually a repost of something someone else has already posted, so you should use that thread to talk about it, not a new one you would create.

In fact, if you could find a gun with a muzzle velocity of 5,511 feet per second, and shot it from a lunar mountain at the lunar horizon, you could shoot yourself in the back of the head!

Isn't muzzle velocity the speed at which the muzzle of a gun moves back when it is fired?

Nearly impossible. While we had to do this as an exercise in orbital mechanics 40 years ago, in reality, the Moon is far too inhomogeneous to get a true circular orbit. The Moon has a large number of Mascons that perturb the orbits of spacecraft orbiting around it and , so far, anything that was left in orbit and not deliberately crashed has crashed on it's own within a relatively short time.

You made half those words up didn't you? Couldn't you have just said that there are bits of the moon with wacky gravity that would screw with the orbit of an object?

Nah, Muzzle velocity is the speed at which a person can put together a mud puzzle while greeting someone in a city with a german accent. Or is it...?
