Mythmod has answered these questions many times before, especially the how did she become a moderator question.
Mythmod was known by certain members of the mythbusters crew, she already moderated a highly successful board, and was partially responsible for looking after that board and keeping it in good shape. She had experience in IT. She was offered the job via e-mail. She accepted.
She is now a moderator.
Her powers are that of a moderator.
Deleteing and Locking threads. Editing other peoples posts. Removing individual posts.
She also can get individuals banned, though I don't know if this is direct action by her, or secondary action by advise to the higher up board admins.

3LIT3 NI64TMAR3,
I can not "do" anything I want. I have rules that I must follow in order to the do job the way Discovery wants it done. If it was as simple as someone getting on my bad side and they go "poof!" - there's a lot of people who wouldn't be posting lol.

I just wish she would let me change my user name to "Master Sergeant" or "Master_Sergeant". When I signed up, the board was not allowing user names to have Caps or be two separate words and it has always bugged me that I am not able to edit my profile to fix it.
I can not "do" anything I want. I have rules that I must follow in order to the do my job the way Discovery wants it done.
Thank the ModGods for that! I've been a member of fansite forums that were moderated based on whether or not the mods liked you, or based on what their mood was, and the accusations can get ugly. The endless fighting it creates gets really old really fast.

adith,
Stop. That's quite enough.
Nature_Lover,
I don't boot people off the board I own just because I don't like them. I restrain myself unless they break the rules. I don't have to like everyone, but everyone must follow the rules.
Please don't ask for the url for the board that I own, I won't give it out. It's not related.

LOL, I wouldn't dream of asking. Actually I was thinking more about posts and threads being deleted based solely on moderators' emotions, not people being booted off. I've seen people decide to leave otherwise great fansites simply because their personality clashed with the moderators' personalities. The fighting on those forums between members and moderators hasn't been because of any rule breaking. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen someone be banned from any forum who wasn't an outright troll (although, I guess it could quietly happen in the background and I just haven't heard about it). But I HAVE seen immature people on the internet who let moderating powers go to their head in other ways. I'm very glad this Mythbusters forum is not like that. You do a great job moderating here. For the record, the fansites I'm thinking about have nothing to do with the Mythbusters either.

Let me see if I can accurately summarize the duties of a site moderator. Ms. Mythmod, feel free to correct/clarify anything.
A moderator is more or less an extension of the site administrator's will and authority. Because administrators cannot be everywhere at once, and cannot police the sites regularly due to other obligations that come with their position, they have mods to keep an eye on the site for them and only contact them if their weighty presence is necessary. Mods can edit/delete posts deemed inappropriate and put reprimands or infractions on members for inappropriate conduct, but cannot ban them (to my knowledge, the administrators have to ban members: mods can only tell them if they feel a ban in necessary). Think like local police vs. the FBI: the local police handle matters that do not require the resources and attention of the FBI, but are more than capable of involving them if it gets to that point.
While Ms. Mythmod cannot (and probably would not) take any direct action against you due to any personal problems (so long as those problems do not violate forum rules), there are many sites where moderators can kick you just because they don't like you: so antagonizing mods is a behavior/habit I would discourage. However, if you remain on good terms with mods, they MAY (that being the operative word) be more lenient if you do violate the rules and perhaps only suggest suspending you instead of outright banning. Of course, that would depend solely on the violation, what the administrators think, and may not even apply to the Discovery forums: so don't think you'll get off easy just because your friends with the staff.
However, if you remain on good terms with mods, they MAY (that being the operative word) be more lenient if you do violate the rules and perhaps only suggest suspending you instead of outright banning
I think the mods here extend that courtesy to everyone, whether a member is on "their good side" or not. That is unless that person is just constantly causing trouble. Frankly, I'm pretty sure thay can see right through people just trying to be on their good side. I'm also pretty sure that the moderators can, on their own, put someone in the modqueue. I think the IP search for banning does require an administrator (or super administrator) as was previously mentioned. This software has some interesting quirks concerning adding people to different groups (Recently, I just happened to get sidetracked reading about it while looking for something else). I doubt that the mods can do it, or would need to for any reason. Though, I have no idea how this feature might be used on this board. However, it is really interesting. Some other additions to their duties list would be shoveling through all the reported posts and emails and reviewing all the modqueued posters too. Browsing through all the boards periodically to head off trouble. Cleaning including deleting old, repetitive posts, mopping the floors, getting Tapster's ridiculous iced-mocha-java-half-caf-latte-espresso, ... etc. Later!

Every time I read the title of this thread I get a picture of Jeannie crossing her arms and blinking. Poof this thread is locked , poof you are banned ....etc.

Who's got to cross their arms? It's three clicks. That's it for suspending. Killing a post? Two.

Can't you just get one of those ether birds like Homer used, and not have to click anything?

You don't have to imagine anything, she always was good looking when she was born. She must have blue/green eyes and kind of color of keri.
I don't know what is it with woman with power that makes it most appealing than ever. For me I like a woman who has power because it makes it more exhilarating when a woman has power because of a way of competing with men. I never was intimidated by woman who has the ability to be equal in terms of power because it's like I like brains because it makes me want a person be more interested in them. Anyways let me keep my mouth shut just a little bit instead of "stew in one's own juices" if you catch my drift. Before mythmod comes in here and banned me from this site forever.
