I wish the BFH came with a caps lock key. It would've saved me a trip to the L'Hopital. Big Grin

OK ... I'm going to take a queue from Jedielfqueen and go for something basic. I like a good multimeter. Not too fancy, not too big, but durable. The digital ones are great, but I like the analog needle gliding (or pinning as the case may be) across the scale.

They're handy on the job, handy at home, and possibly saved me from burning some things up on occasion. Plus, moreso earlier in my life (I guess), they can be fun to play, uh research with.

Later! Smile

ps. I hear that a BFH can even make Windows Vista work well if you use it on the disk before installing. Wink

The human body, more specifically the brain, is there any other more adaptive and responsive scientific device out there?

I have two favorites that I regularly use in my job.

A good set of dial calipers. (i still prefer the dial to digital ones.) and my TI-83 Plus calculator. I've had it for years, it got me though a good part of school and it still keeps going. I've even got a few custom programs that I wrote to automate various math tasks.

PV=nrt

I forget these days which ones are capitalized, but it is sooo useful in pnematics, the weather, understanding wierd stuff that might happen in a hot car...

like majmattmason, I've come to appreciate the simple analog multimeter. If the battery is low in my digital, volt accuracy is out the window . WAY out. And it doesn't alert you to low battery. Sometimes the simpler, the better.

Knots. Shoot, what is that knot that works as an ascender? I'll remember the moment I log off.

The one that I was taught in Boy Scouts that works is the Taut-Line Hitch, but There are probably others too.

I like the taut line hitch. Useful for tensioning your tent lines, etc, but there's one used in climbing. Like for your body weight.
