As Mythmod said the responsibility lies with the parent not the program. And though it is still a "bad word" people have been warned and Adam has the right.

That reminds me of the famous quote;

"It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt"

Wish I could remember who said that....

Wow! Deja vu! Smile

I was actually thinking of this quotation earlier -- I was going to add it to the "random thoughts" thread. I believe it's attributed to Abraham Lincoln.

That's even older than Honest Abe.
Samuel Johnson is another source.

I couldn't agree more. While the language on Mythbusters may sometimes not be suitable for children, it at least has many redeeming qualities, both in entertainment and educational areas. Although I watch the show because I find it so enjoyable, I love the fact that I learn so many new and interesting things from it as well. Compare this to something like, oh say The Simpsons. It is only rated PG and even sometimes only G; we know thats kids watch this show all the time, even though it has language and content far from suitable for kids. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy watching that show sometimes as well (not nearly as much as Mythbusters but...:P), but as far as educational or enlightening programming, it really doesn't have any of those redeeming qualities. Now that's just my opinion...but I'm stickin' to it! Big Grin

I could certainly believe that... And a quick Google also brings up attributions of the same saying to Lincoln, to Mark Twain, and to Anonymous (everyone's favorite wisearse).

Adam is not the only "pottymouth" genius on the show. Grant has dropped a "bomb" before.

You can find it it on youtube. Not sure how it made it past the censors.

Guess I'll have to DVR it next time it runs to make sure it isnt a fake.

I'd seen it before... it sounds totally legit to me. Though, that one went to air, there are loads of outtakes where the cast uses language 'not suitable for prime time.'

These are REAL people with REAL reactions. THEY play a large part in making the show interesting.

Ming,

I appreciate South Park for what it is - mindless drivel produced to make people laugh.

There are a lot of shows like that, and there is a place for them. South Park is not made for children either.

True enough but, they DO address realworld issues.

While I'm not a huge fan, I can't argue with 11 seasons and commitments through 15 (1997-2011).

That said, the "It hits the fan" episode had me in a full and painful belly-laugh.

Mythbusters quite often deal with myths that, frankly, you wouldn't want young kids to think about to much-which is why the TV-14 rating. The language they use is-to me-very tame considering some of the things that can (and do) go wrong. I've heard worse on shows with a lower TV rating that MB.

I totally agree. Dimming down the language on this show would take away SO much charm - everything would seem really fake.

i, as a young adult agree with ICTHRUU in the fact that Adam and Jamie's vulgar language has been getting kind of out of hands (please excuse my typing, i am sort of new to this) but most of this language is being censored now ( the average beep being replaced with all sorts of wierd noises) but of course the fact they even say these kind of things is enough to hurt the sensitive and i believe that they need to cut the cursing down for a while. If you're under 14 you shouldn't be watching the show...

How old are you?

And when did children start thinking they can tell adults what they need to do and what they shouldn't do?

The world doesn't work that way, my friend. The world does not conform to any one person's idea of what should be and what is. That, my friend, is called REALITY.

.
The total inappropriateness of the show for children is what struck me when I did manage to see some of it.. That is was -popular- with children caused me to wonder about their.... um..uh.. can't say "parents", real parents wouldn't let their kids see that stuff..
It's as worthless as Oprah, or Jerry, or Maury.. just crap for the mouth-breathers looking at people as sad as they are that they can identify with.

With all due respect MythMod, that's just not right. It's my understanding that the TV ratings system is a form of general warning... The understanding being: "YOU'VE BEEN WARNED... should you continue to watch, you MAY be offended. Proceed with caution !"

A form of 'due diligence' if you will. Should you choose to 'ignore' the warning, without consideration, then you are by definition ignorant.

nonmythicaldragon -

Our understanding must be different then, as when I see that the producers of a program, movie, toy, etc state that their product is inappropriate for anything under a certain age group, I tend to take that as a rule...

That's just me. I figure those who make the product should KNOW if a young child would have problems.

*shrug* It's just me. Smile

I have to agree fully with mythmod.

As for you, nonmythicaldragon you are totally wrong. you have twisted understandings.

If a show that you are about to show, it tells you a warning contents are for a 18+ plus. I do take it as a rule, that those things on the show are for older people to understand and to view. I just change the channel.

If you continue to watch its up to you, but still you should follow the rules. And especially kids, if your are the parent, you should always be careful of what kids watch.
