The best we, as a group of regulars, can do is ignore the repeats - they will quickly fall off the first few pages and not cause any problem.

We have done that. They only increase and drown out the good ideas. This place is almost as bad as a political forum where it is nothing but arguing over the same topics over and over again. Even when the regs ignore a post, a new reg goes in and posts the faults.

I am all for deregulation, but even still there needs to be some semblance of order.

I won't editorialize beyond that.

Yes, I'm aware of that, roofingguy (if that sounds rude, I don't mean it as such). I figured it was the answer I was going to get, but I felt the desire/need/etc to bring this issue to the new mod's attention--even if it doesn't do any good. I guess I'll let it rest at this, now.

Violent_storm has a valid point. Why are members going to follow rules and expectations if there are no consequences for anything but the most blatant of TOS violations?

Anyway, no offense towards you, DCFM. I know you're new to the forum, and I have every bit of faith that you're going to do your best to be a good and fair Mod.

No, I don't take it as rude, Caitekins, but as far as I can tell, the powers-that-be have spoken, and that *is* the only answer, whether any of us like it or not.

I still feel the flooding of the boards does go against the

section of the Visitor Agreement, but in the ultimate end it's Discovery's call, not ours -- it's their website.

Thank you much.

They won't. Just like in life, if someone thinks that their boss does not care about an infraction, then they don't care either. And then they are surprised when their boss starts caring.

No no offense towards DCFM. Like I said when she first came over to the MB board, I am sure she will do everything she can within the confines of what Disco allows. We all know that they only care about numbers on this board. The MB show will continue even if this site fails, or degenerates into idiocy.

What I do not understand is how Disco can not understand that a million hits is a million hits regardless of who is hitting. Be it a thousand regular contributing members hitting the site a thousand times each, or a million one time visitors hitting it one time. The difference is the regular members can and will contribute to the show.

Whoever checks their cost benefit numbers needs to be fired. It is simple business economics.

Here's a quick one for ya...

When did we get the poling feature back?

Or has it always existed and I've just tooled along blithely ignoring it until now?

My question was brought on by this post in the Military/Weapons section

It's not. That thread was started over 13 months ago. Looks like someone dug it up to talk about duck tape body armor. It had been dormant since November of 2007.

Much like the previous "Ask the Mod a question" thread, this one would be better titled, "Ask the Moderator and a hand-full of members will answer / debate your question on the Mod's behalf." Roll Eyes

I see a solution but i do not know what they are already in the process of doing.

There is currently a mostly unused locked FAQ forum that could really answer all the questions that are being spammed in advance, though it may only make people type " USE THE FAQ" as opposed to use " FIND '.

This will be the absolute limit of my two cents when it comes to the making of the FAQ , I just like posting here , I have no final say nor can I decide whats right for Mythbusters, but I can suggest.

Someplace , not sure where , possibly in the water cooler , a thread should be made where all regular posters can answer the repeat questions asked ,with some courtesy and tact.

Then when its gone over by the moderator and whoever else makes all the critical decisions ,it is transferred over to the F.A.Q. and locked for good.
People look in the FAQ first as a rule and currently there are 2 posts.

I tend to type really bad and make errors often so I am excluding myself from the process, but the idea is sound so I passed it on.

I see references to the stickies and nothing mentioned by anyone on here about improving the FAQ , so if there is something I am missing I apologize.

Still I don't understand the childish bump I received I will consider allotting time to worry over it,

Times up.

I am probably the most amiable person you will ever talk to , so I can't really justify venom spewing as any way to solve a problem .

Must be my inferior intellect getting in the way of developing a superficial sense of superiority and rudeness.

Hello Pennsyjohn,

There are a lot of references posted in the forums to remind everyone to use the "Find" button to locate existing topics and myths. This helps the researchers of the show locate data more readily and it also helps people who are interested in the same topic find the subject and others that may want to discuss it.

I use the find button, I like the find button, I have become one with the find button, BUT a new person is going to look in the FAQ, where the FAQs should be.

You can place your idea for a myth on one of the forums that correspond with your idea - like if it is from a movie, science based, etc. If it does not fit in the various forums you can post your idea in the "Ideas: Everything Else" forum.

Ever since the 9/11 stickies went away, I've been concerned.

Now, a 9/11 post has appeared here.

Is 9/11 now on-topic for this forum?

As far as "Find" is willing to tell me with numerous attempts, the 9/11 stickies were deleted altogether, not merely un-stickied and relegated to their original posting date as the other stickies appear to have been.

So with that, along with the "all members have the right to post" and "discussion will not be curtailed" types of directives we've been hearing over the last many months, the only logical conclusion is that such discussion is now acceptable here to Discovery.

Actually working on the info right now and will be posting the notice here shortly that we will NOT be allowing the 9/11 topics to be discussed on the forums.

Thank you, DCFM, for a clear and prompt response to this matter. Personally, it eases my mind considerably.
