I am sorry for correcting you, but the name Jesus does not mean Immanuel or God with us. Jesus originates from the Koine Greek Iesous which originates from the Aramaic Yeshua and the Hebrew Yehoshua. Yeshua/Yehoshua is translated to Joshua which means "the Lord saves" or "the Lord is salvation."
When Christians use the prophecy in Isaiah 7:14 which states "Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel" it is used as prophetic evidence that the Messiah would be God incarnate Himself...."God with us."
So, Jesus, to Christians, including myself, is in fact Immanuel, God with us, and it could be accepted as a title or name, but it is important that we do so in the correct context of the name.
In the name of Jesus Christ for the glory of God the Father.
The biblical Jesus' name correct name of Yeshua in Aramaic and Yehoshua in Hebrew were very common names similar to saying Michael, John, or Smith in today's context. The importance of the names listed above is that they both begin with the syllable yeh which is the name used in those times to name YWHW, Yahweh, and Lord. Secondly, Yeshua/Yehoshua means "the Lord saves" which is what the Old Testament prophecies about the Messiah, and the New Testament claims of Jesus. Thirdly, Immanuel in the Old Testament was Isaiah's way of literally describing the Messiah....He was to be God with us.
P.S. Yeshua and Yehoshua are the same thing in the two core languages spoken in Jesus' time. Didn't want to further confuse you. I'm going to sleep soon. If you have any questions, email me at michaelrosero@sprintpcs.com.
