I have created a spoof of Cash Cab for the contest and been unable to successfully complete an upload for a week now.
I have tried to send as an mpg, an avi and a wmv file. The max size of the file as an mpg is about 40 MB and as an avi it is only 21 MB so I am well under the size limit. After entering all the required info the upload begins OK but anywhere from 3 to 15 minutes in to the process the attempt to upload fails and the screen goes to a server not found browser screen. The video was easily uploaded to YouTube, Google, Yahoo, Revver, MetaCafe, BrightCove and a few others so I am certain this problem is unique to the Discovery upload tool or process.
I would very much like to submit my original film to the contest, but my frustration has about run its course. Can anyone help me? I emailed a request for assistance through the Discovery site but did not get a reply so I searched out a phone and called their internal IT department. They were nice enough but unable to actually do much beyond forward my request. Then I did get an email from a human being on Wednesday asking if I was still having a problem. I replied but have not heard anything else from them.
Is this problem unique to me or are others having a problem uploading content? Is there a workaround?
I have tried with IE 6, Firefox and Opera and all fail. Any assistance would be most appreciated,
Thanks, Barry
FWIW, if anyone would like to check out my spoof, it is available at - Ca$H Ultralight
Hi Barry, I've had the same problem for SEVERAL weeks and finally got a mailing address where I could send my satires in on a DVD. I tried the uploader on different computers, with different browsers and nothing worked. Like you, I met all the requirements but it still didn't work. Try sending your video to this address:
YouSpoof Discovery c/o Allison Corn Lion Television USA 304 Hudson St. Suite 505 New York, NY 10013
Thanks, will do. Wonder how many others have this problem and why they do not fix it? I just checked out your series of spoofs - nice job.
Thanks again, Barry

Hey Guys, I am having the same problem...however it gave me this error message: An error has occured in application and the support team has been notified. etc. My video "compressed" is only 19 mb .wmv. It was compressed (which I didn't like to do, but it just wouldn't go). Would it be to late to send it to them on DVD . I did a dirty jobs spoof thats about 7 mins...whats the lengh of your guys? I'll see if I can get it up so you can check it out if anyone wants...since it will looks like there will be no spoofs this year due to the upload tool, hehe just kidding. Take it easy.

My video was only 19mb only because I compressed a lot (didn't want to it just will not go though). I did a dirty jobs spoof which is about 7mins (I think they said three min??), how long is your guys? I'll see if I can get it up so you guys can check it out if you want. Doesn't appear there will be anying spoof this year, hehe just kidding...but they better fix that fast. Would it be to late to send it in on dvd? Is dvd fine?...tape just seems really really really old school to me, in fact it makes me sick. Take it easy guys.
They did also email instructions to send in DVD format to the same address Jason posted so I sent it off yesterday. DVD's are cheap, go ahead and burn one ASAP and get it in the mail - what have you got to lose?
My original video was 5 1/2 minutes, but when I saw the 3 minute rule I re-edited to skinny it down. Ended up at 3:03 and just couldnt cut any more.
Post a link when you get yours online, I would enjoy checking it out. Did you have a chance to watch my Cash Cab spoof? Any feedback would be most appreciated (especially if it is positive :-) Barry
Thanks for the reply BarryFoer. I got it to submit online finally. I also sent them a DVD today of it. It will probably get there on Sept 1st or 2nd though which I would imagine would be fine since I sent it before the deadline? Anyway I will see if I can get it online right now and send you a link. I will have to watch yours right now.
Thanks! We filmed an alternate ending - threw a watermellon into the pond and got a HUGE splash - but the film was too jerky - it is hard to track an object freefalling so the parachute was just easier to shoot.
Next time - a dummy into the lake and then pick up with swimming out, but will need more than a day to film it :-)
Hey Barry just checked it out...that was very funny, thats got a good chance I think. How long it take you guys? Kind of hard to film up there I imagine?

If anyone wants to check it out. The quality of is crapy but the version I sent them is broadcast quality. Shot with an optura xi and audio technica shotgun mic. Anyway it was fun to do. Feel free to critique it.

All of our work is hand held and filming in the air does add an extra degree of challenge. Still spend way more time editing than shooting although filming is much more fun.

Yeah usually it takes longer to edit, especially if you got other angles and different audio levels etc. It took us about 1 hour and a half to film and about the whole rest of the day to edit it, it was originally ten minutes so thats why. Than I ended up getting it down to 5, I still think the ten min version adds more humor but oh well. Thanks for the comments.
hi - don't know if you've figured it out yet but, if all else fails - mail a DVD of your submission to us here at Lion Television. We are producing this years You Spoof 2.0 show.

I tried 10+ times to post a video using the discovery.com/spoof upload tool (changed file types, file sizes, tried 3 browsers, etc) no luck. I considered mailing a copy but until I found this post, didn't realize that you can submit a DVD (instead of a 'tape' as posted on the help site.)
Will the finalists need to mail VHS tapes as well? Or will the DVD copy work? And, should I create 2 copies on the DVD (one with music and one without?)
Thanks, Celeste

hey ya weenies, yeah i think they are gonna have too restart the contest. I tried to upload my parody too and the thing is broken, then somebody called me and said i had to send it by mail...........yikes oh well i put it up here for perusal http://snootface.home.mchsi.com/
AH! I'm having the same problem. But I don't have a DVD burner on my computer and my friends don't know how to burn DVD's either. I think there should be a certain deadline with an uploader that actually works! But I do like your spoof by the way. Anybody know if we can send in CD-R's with the file on it instead of DVD's?
We could send in DVD's? I only read "tape" on the site. RRRGH, I spent a week trying to get the video properly formatted for that, and had a friend halfway across the country convert it for me.
Meh, I got mine uploaded online just fine. Not a problem whatsoever.
