I know Reed Timmer makes a living selling tornado footage. if a storm chaser gets tornado footage and is vbery lucky in that he gets on just about every storm, than can that person sell that footage that he got? Any advice on this subject is appreciated. Thnaks

Generally, you need to have contacts within the major networks to make any serious money. Otherwise, your best bet is to call up a local affiliate close to where you shot the tornado and tell them you'd like to sell your footage. Some stations will say they won't pay, others will pay you a minimal price (25-50 bucks for exclusive rights). Often times, if you don't sign an agreement, the affiliate will sell it to a network (ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX or CNN) for a much larger price and you'll get screwed out of a much larger paycheck. Just the way the business works.

So my question is how do people like reed timmer make a living off of storm chasing. Is that becuase over time you make connections with people, or what. So can anyone sell tornado footage or what becuase if you get to tornados alot then you should be able to make some money on the side. Any advice on ways of selling footage is mucha ppreciated
