Im young and I just got obesessed with tornadoes maybe 2 months ago. (If i start to like something one day, the next day i'm totally obesessed with it and I know everything about it). The thing is, I live in a place where there are NO tornadoes. I've always wanted to see one, but all I've seen is pictures and videos. My dad said he might take me storm chasing over the summer. That sounds fun, but ever since i liked tornadoes, I've wanted to do a chase with the Discovery channel storm chasers, so I could go into a tornado but also be safe. any suggestions?

well young kid if i had to do all over again i would check out the university of oklahoma in norman oklahoma keep your grades up and try and get a scholaship for meteorology. check this website out www.spc.noaa.gov. Oklahoma University has one of top meterology schools in the nation. if you can get a degree from here you would be able to chase for the rest of your life and love every minute of it.

Thanks for the great tip but I'm not going to be in college very soon... But I'll take note to apply to University of Oklahoma. Thanks!

I also suggest your tour the National Weather Center, which houses the SPC, WFO OUN (Norman), the NEXRAD operations center, the Warning Decesion Training Branch, and the OU school of Meterology. To quote the Deputy Director of the NWS, "Norman is the emerging meterology capital of the nation." In fact, I got a folder with that quote as a freebie when I toured the NWC! In addition to just the government facilities, several commercial buildings housing what the NWC calls "partners" surround the building. Norman is a great place to work for weather nerds.
