Hello my name is Crystal,

I am from Canada and, all my life Ive wanted to be a storm chaser, but I never thought I would be good enough. I have gotten comments on how my instints are with weather and I always brushed it off because I didn't think I had the grades. I went to college for massage therapy and have now realized thats not what I want to do. I am seriously thinking of going to university for meteorology, but I don't know if thats where you start fot this kind of profession. I am also willing to go to the US for schooling if possible. If you could kindly post back and say what path you took to become a storm chaser it would be greatly apreciated. thank you soo much!

You don't have to go back to school to be a storm chaser, but you would if you ever wanted to become a meterologist for a TV station on Environment Canada (Although they are REALLY bad with severe weather from what I've seen) The best thing to do if you want to be a storm chaser is partner with someone for a few seasons. I monitor Stormtrack, the online community for chasers. They post detailed forecast, reports, and general chasing/weather news on there. You can learn alot about all the different weather forecasting computer models just from looking at the chasers' forecasts. I also like to look at all the different case studies of severe weather events. You can look at those at the U.S. National Weather Service website. I especially like the studies from WFO PAH, the office that does the forecasting for my area, so I might be biased.

Good Luck!

Storm chasing is money career but just a hobby folks have. More than not even the most experienced chasers run into storm chase busts. It's hard to make money off it and few have been successful.
