i have a great pyreaneas-jack russel mix at the moment and she is sweet and calm and i used to have a english setter-pointer mix and he was a great dog too.

i was just curious to see how many other proud mutt owners would respond. =D

so if you are a proud mutt owner id love it if you told me all about your mutts!!

(i have had plenty of purbred dogs also, and i dont care if my pets are purebred or not but i have found that mixs are alot less likely to get certain diseases and such because they dont have the history of inbreeding.)

I have three "half/half's" as I call them.

American Pit Bull/American Bulldog
Japanese Spitz/Miniature Poodle
Jack Russel Terrier/Pomeranian (rescue)
purebred Pomeranian (rescue)

It's actually a myth that purebred dogs are more prone to certain genetic issues. Of course, inbreeding may cause this, but hopefully if people are breeding, they are doing ethically and are able to find breed-able specimen outside their existing gene pool. Large purebred dogs are prone to hip dysplasia, and small purebred dogs are prone to slipping knee caps. So are mixed breeds dogs of the same stature though.

I dont ATM. I just have a severly poorly bred collie. a puppy mill dog, so thats why he is very poorly bred.

but growin up we had apoodle chiuahauh mix. Nowadays he would have sold for 650+ and called a chipoo lmao that is just terrible IMO. He was our accident litter that we kept.

Alo it is just a myth that mixed breeds are healthier. Inbreedng should only be done to keep genetics that are very good. Its also called line breeding, such as breeding a father with his great grandaughter. keeps the line nice and clean and keeps poor genetics out for ht emost part. offcourse nothing is stopable and even the best tested dogs can have problems.

I am a proud owner of two mixed breed dogs. They are Chipoos and absolutely wonderful dogs. I wouldn't trade them for anything in the world. They have tons of personality, very playful, very obedient and sweet. I guess it is just a personal preference but I like the unknown and uniqueness of mixed breeds.

I like mixes... except those that are bred purposefully. Well, it's not so much that I don't like them... it's the "breeders" that do it. I can understand where the Labradoodle came from, but now people are doing it just for the money. They aren't ethical and they're nonsense. They also pass it off as a breed. It's not. It's a mix.

Same goes with Mastidanes, CockerPoos... or any "poo" mix for that matter.

I don't mind a mutt from the shelter, but when people are wanting more than the shots worth and an adoption fee out of their mix, there's a problem.

I have two sweet mutts. But as they prefer to be called "Origanls". They get up set and I mean it if you call them the m-word. One is Kyzer, a shit zu poopdle cross or a shitzapoo. I also own a Beagle croos. His full name is The Diamond of Red Aces. I don't know his mother. Only the father and I know it is the other way around most of the time. I have seen the mother but don't know what she is.

My pet is a maltese/shih tzu mix. He is so adorable and cute. Everytime I would take him for a walk, he sure catch the eyes of people passing by. And they would praise and say how cute my pet is. Big Grin

We have two mixies. My mom's dog Sidnee is what they call a "Cockapoo"; she's a rescue though. We drove to a shelter in West Virginia to get her. She's Cocker Spaniel and Poodle and she's an amazing dog. My dog's name is Shay and she's an English Setter and English Springer Spaniel mix.

I only go to shelters when it's time to adopt a new memeber of the family. Humane Society of Missouri is where we adopted our 145 pound 1/2 Bloodhound 1/2 Lab, Piper. She's been one of the best dogs I've ever had or been around; she's 6.

We just had to have our Senior Border Collie/mix (From HSMO) put to sleep. Very sad, he was a wonderful dog.

We just adopted a Treeing Walker Coonhound/mix(?). He's 6 mths old. We got him from a rescue in Bunker, Missouri hense his name "Bunker". He's just started a horible habit of BARKING!! Non-stop at Piper to get her up to play. She's lazy but tolerates and after a while will play.
We love our mixes and other dogs too. I don't care if they are full blooded or all mixed up; as long as they come from a rescue or shelter or pound (unwanteds) and fit with our family, that's the dog/cat for us!

Piper,
If Bunker is indeed a hound mix (especially a Walker), they're going to be naturally "mouthy."

I don't know much about the breed itself, but hounds tend to like to talk.

My uncle raises Walkers. He does 'coon-hunting and all that other jazz. Every single one of those dogs you can hear in the next county.

(We take in and foster when it is needed... just about everything. Strangest rescue we've ever had, though, is our tarantula.)

My wife and I have always had "rescued" or "foster" home dogs first and formost. We don't "look for" mutts or pure breeds but most of the real cuties are mutts. One of our dogs, that past away this past November at 17 yrs old, was some sort of dobie, whippet, God knows what? Confused We liked to call her a "Mexican Beach Dog", (if you've travelled to Mexico a lot you probably know what we're talking about! Wink)
Our other dog is a Tibetan Spaniel/Pekinese mix to our best guess. He gets along well with other animals but can be shy around strangers.
The newest member of our family is a 1 yr old Standard Wire-haired Dachshund that we adopted from a foster home. We "think" he's a mix because he's a little on the large size even for a "standard" Dachshund. Originally we thought he was a mix of Australian Sheppard, (maybe he still is?), because he has a little pie eye and a kind of Blue merle coat. He might even be part or full Cardigan Welsh corgi. Cool Wish we could post pics....he's vey cool looking!

I love all kinds of dogs but alot of the time I prefer purebred because you can get a better idea of what you are going to have.

We are in the process of trying to adopt a puppy right now. I had four dog two of which were Mixes. One was a Bernese Mountain Dog/Border Collie mix and the other was a Blue Heeler/Border Collie mix. We also had to Border Collies who were not mixed.
