(repost since the website is acting funky)

After months of being too broke to cry, the most wonderful thing happened last Saturday.

A man witnessing the word of God Gave my husband and I $1,200 because God told him we needed it. He told us to tell people that God gave us the gift, not him. He wouldn't take no for an answer.

My husband and I agreed, first we paid off all of our bills, (we were a couple of months behind everywhere) then we bought food, (a fully stocked kitchen is making me cry) and finally we said we would use the last of the money to each get something we REALLY want.

He's getting custom vampire fangs (eyeroll) and I am getting a dog!

I'm going to get everything we need for a little doggy. ^.^

I'm so horribly excited!!!

Ok its been a little while since we had a doggy in the house. I know I'm going to need bowls and a leash and food and a crate and a place to sleep, and I want to go to the pound or start browsing petfinder for my new pup. But I want some help.

Anything you can think of that I will need, anything at all I should get or plan on getting. I know I want to try to get a young pup, maybe around 6-8 months old, so I'd like people to remind me what sets of shots I'm going to plan on getting.

I'm absolutely going to make sure it's fixed and all that, but what else should I do/look for?

thank you for helping ^.^

Congradulations! I'm happy to hear that you and your husband are enjoying kindness of others.

Here's my two cents about things needed:

If you're getting a dog off petfinder, chances are all this will be done already, and they'll give you his vaccination sheet so you'll know when you have to get his boosters next year.
Shots:
*rabies
*lymes (if your area is affected)
*combo shot (usually a 5 way)
*heartworm test and preventative if it hasn't already been done

Extra doggie stuff:
*collar, harness, leash
*crate
*bed
*durable toys (squeaky, chewing, kongs, etc.)
*treats for being a good doggie and training rewards
*dishes
*dog food (I reccommend Chicken Soup for the Pet Lovers Soul)

Extra things:
*registration with your county if it's required
*microchipping if it hasn't been done already

That's all that comes to mind now, best of luck with your new friend!

Lol yah.. my reaction was "you want WHAT???!! Well, fine I'm getting my dog then."

I'm hoping to find a corgi, if not, then i want something relatively small but a little bit energetic. I want it to mesh with the ferrets and fit in my house but I have a HUGE yard to play and run around in.

I'm so happy for you!! Congrats on getting the new dog soon. Dogs are a huge responsibility and are also very expensive if you take them to the vets. But they are well worth the expense and effort. I am going to be gradually changing my dog's food over to Chicken soup for the Pet lover's soul also here pretty soon(been hearing great things about it) so maybe Katie won't be so dead gum hyper. Right now, she is in a calm, submissive state taking a nap on the floor beside my feet and desk. Smile She's been running around all morning. Sorry..I ramble too much. Anyway, good luck with the new pet when you get it. The only advice I can give is to do your research and make sure the pet you get is the one you really want! Smile
