I sister has a 2 yr old mut. She wont eat and when she does they have to feed her from a spoon. She is in heat right now and a couple months ago she did lose her best friend. I would like to know what I can tell them to help out with their baby.

How long has this not eating behavior been going on? What are they feeding the dog? Has the dog been to the vet? Why is a mutt not spayed?

I had the same questions as agility.

Why is she being fed by a spoon? In my experience when dogs are spoiled or babied they become accustomed to it very quickly and dont like to go back to how they were being fed before. If my dog Jeffrey get anything special in his blow (i.e meat , gravy, eggs etc) for more than two days in a row he wont go back to eating just plain dog food right away because he wants that something special. He will just stare at his food then at me. But we dont cave- we keep feeding him regular dog food until he eats it.

Try hiding a treat or something in the bowl, not completely out of sight but just visible enough to make them chow on some food to get to it. It helps sometimes.

Definitely vet time; first get her healthy and then get her spayed.

spaying is definetly a good idea. She can get really stressed out when she goes in heat and if she is not going to have puppies, having her not spayed will put her in danger and possibly take years off her life. I work at a vets office and I see far too many problems with unspayed females. they are more likey to get cancer, and definetly more likely to get infections in their uterus, that can even cause death.
