Yes, if you do it enough and they don't have a bad experience in them. But remember, don't over-humanize your dogs. They are dogs, not babies. They have four legs so that they can walk on the ground and fur coats to keep them warm. The only time I feel it necessary to put clothes on a dog is if it's cold out and they have a really thin coat (like on a Greyhound or Min Pin) or if they're a hairless breed.

WHY?
Dogs are born with fur coats on. Why would you want to put clothes on them?

Because people think that dogs are "little people" and that it looks "cute". No it doesn't. It makes the dog look pathetic.

I would only dress my dog if it were extremely cold outside, or if it were a hairless. But not in some stupid dress or costume that is so "adorable".

DOGGIE PHISIOLOGY 101
Lets say you are feeling a little under the weather. You go see your doctor. They take your temperature and it measures 100.5 degrees. You will probably be sent home to rest with some medicine. You are running a fever and are sick.

You take your dog to the vet. His temperature is checked. It also reads 100.5. Your dog won't get anything for this. That is because it is normal.

A dog's body temperature runs higher then ours. Why would you then put clothes on such a creature?

Have you ever sat down in a spot that had a dog laying recently? Your rear-end feels warm, doesn't it? Again, dogs are much warmer then we are.

Not only are clothes on a dog silly. I do believe it is borderline cruel.

I don't think it's CRUEL to put clothes on a dog, but I do think it's pointless (unless you have a shorthaired or hairless dog). I'm not really sure why people think it's cute to dress up their dogs...since when have dogs ever needed clothes?

NOT CRUEL?
Maybe it isn't cruel. But try going outside wearing a sweater when its 100 degrees. You'll be uncomfortable to say the least.

My two little dogs wear clothes occasionally. Sometimes for purpose, sometimes just because I like it.

As do mine, Calypso gets really mad when I remove her t-shirt from her. She'll carry it back to me and continue dropping it in my lap. If it's so cruel and horrid I fail to see why she insists on having it put back on her.

My dog loves clothes! im not mean about it though. it gets really cold where i live. it NEVER gets over 80 degrees and i wouldnt put anything on my pup if its very warm. most of the time it is winter when i put a shirt or a jacket on him.

ok...our older dog that i used to have, Penny, she didn't have a very thick coat most of the time and she was old and got cold quickly so we got her a doggie sweater. but she is gone now and now we have two corgis and we have these little collars that are kinda fringe-like and thats all we do

I don't like doggie clothes. They're dogs, not fashion statements! The dog could care less wether it's "in style" or not.

The only reason I see acceptable for a dog to wear clothing is if you have a thin haired dog that gets cold easily (like greyhounds). And you'd be better off investing in a durable, well made dog jacket rather than a silly sweater or fashion coat made for decoration. Rosie wears little booties on walks because the surface temperature of our asphalt can get over 130. And these are not cute little fashion booties that are made to look adorable, they are durable leather and tent canvas Muttluks which cost me $50.

I sense a not so subtle undercurrent of sarcasm here. How dare we do things to our dogs that some don't agree with in their boat of right while the rest of us are drowning helplessly in a sea of wrong.

Alas.

rather than turning this into an arguement and acting as if this is an act of cruelty, i would only use doggie colathes if it were a holiday and we were having a party and she was coming too and i wanted her to look cute. but i wouldn't do this every day. hardly even once a week just about three or four times a month....if there is a special occasion.
