And thanks, we have been trying to save money for her, I guess we could buy a more expensive toy.

I wasn't trying to be rude. You asked a question, people responded, and then you made excuses why you couldn't execute any of the responses generated, or just ignored them completely.

If you're going to be a dog owner, you can't be "cheap" about quality products.

If you want to continue to buy your dog $4.99 toys every other week, well then guess what? In a few weeks you could have bought a toy that didn't rip to shreds and possibly make your dog sick.

Simple math.

Okay, so you weren't being rude. Sorry I said that. And I WASN'T making excuses. I was telling people what we could and couldn't get. Only b/c we're not rich like you apparently are. That's all I was saying. And I wasn't ignoring people's responses either. I appreciate everyone's answers and I read every single one of them. I'm just trying to get the response that we can do for her. I'm not trying to start an argument so I'm sorry I even started this stupid post. There, that's that. THE END.

I have 2 pit bulls and a Chihuahua and I SWEAR by lacross balls. They can be found at any sports store. A pack of 3 is about $10. I have had the same ball for 2 years and no noticeable damage.(Tennis balls last 20 seconds in my house) We only replace them when lost. They are tennis ball size and have a lot of bounce and my dogs love them.

I was just innocently looking through this post, and wondering -what exactly is too much to spend on a toy?

You're saying that the $15 or so is too much to spend on the Tuffies toy - but you have bought so many other toys for your dog, with no success? Interesting. I noticed you said you can't order things online, I think you should recconcider and find a way because it is usually very much worth it. Online opens a world of shopping oppertunities, especially for your pet. You could also check out (if you are ever able to order online) petedge.com, along with those tuffies toys. Toys are expensive, dog things are expensive - it's just one of those things you have to deal with.

Luckily, there is a dollar tree (where yes, everything is a dollar) around here that has a pet section. Yes, some of the toys are cheap and my ACD just rips them up, but other toys last and last and were worth that, what, a buck and a nickel? Of course not everyone will be so lucky, but it just shows you need to shop around. I bought Remington his Teaser Ball by Jolly Ball (which is a tough, long lasting toy by the way. Tempi has had hers for years - has broke it in half by this point - it's an "outdoor" toy, as we call it, but she still plays with it like it's the best thing in the world) and I paid $20 for the 10 inch and about $14 for the 6 inch. I have also spent $8 on a rubber water fetch bouie for summer time, and $10 on a Giggly Wiggly ball, and there are just lots of expensive ones, but my point was there are also inexpensive ones too (depending on opinion I guess) that can last - probably not on the very very tough chewers but for some dogs.

You'd be surprised at what you can find at something like a yard sale. Plenty of dog toys(originally starting out as kids toys) and for cheap.

I suggest ordering stuff online. If not by your computer then by someone else's. You have to pay for shipping but I find things are usually cheaper online anyway. Save up your money and get a tough toy for your dog!

Here you go, this is what I do. I have a kong for my dog I also buy hard rubber toys that look like the same kong material. She always has at least two or three of these to choose from. I also get her rope toys like you said usually she has two of those. Then when the soft stuffed toys are on sale (like a dollar a piece) I will buy a ton of them and let her have one as a treat every once in a while to rip appart. Having a lot of toys usually keeps the toys around longer. I also get her busy bones and cow hoofs to chew on that she likes. The cow hoofs last a while even through my 60lb chewing machine.

As far as the sticks go I could use help there too. Mine even eats mulch. I think it might have something to do with when she was a puppy she as a stray at 3 months old, 3.4lb, and very dehydrated the vet said she would most likely die I think she ate lots of sticks and such at that time, she is also obsessed with water she will drink for 5 min straight like she might not get any later. I got her over a year ago she still does it.

Thank you all for your suggestions.

I'm going to try the laccrose balls first, then everything else.

And I said I cannot buy offline b/c we do not and cannot afford a credit card. We can only order online with Walmart b/c of my brother's gift card.

Ms. G, thank you. I'm going to try your suggestion first b/c your story sounds exactly like mine (except for the # of dogs). Thanks!! :-)

Just curious, but what are you feeding her and how long are these walks? Some dogs shred their toys because they're extremely bored. I'm afraid that running around in the back yard doesn't count as excersize. They need something that actually physically AND mentally exhausts them. Normally, one or two half hour to fourty five minute walks a day will work. I'm not talking about letting the dog walk where it pleases, sniffing at this, marking that. I'm talking paying attention to you, keeping her mind busy, for nearly the whole thing. Two very good friends of mine are behavior trainers (actual certified trainers, not just PETSMART teachers... not that PETSMART trainers are bad), and I've learned a lot from them. I have three Great Danes in a two bedroom apartment. I've got to keep their minds occupied, or they could rip the place apart.

My German Shepherd used to chew kong toys...but he got kinda bored with them...even though I put treats in them. And, like your problem, he chewed through every toy I bought him. But I finaly got him a small rubber tire(not actually a tire) with a little rope hanging out so you can play tug-o-war, and that was 2 years ago! The toy is my dog's favorite and it's in excellant shape. It doesn't make much sense, he chewed through other rubber toys..must be a special kind of rubber or something. Go figure*

At the time I started this post, we took her for two walks a day. At least an hour each. Once in the morning and again in the evening. We also played with her for fifteen or so minutes after her walk. We don't let her run/walk where she likes b/c if not watched, she will take off. And we don't let her play outside and say that that's exercise.

Forgot to mention that we feed her Hill's Science Diet. That's the food her foster parent feed her and we've just kept her on it.

And we had a rope attached to something (so long ago, can't remember what it was attached to). And she chewed through it all. I was surprised our yard didn't turn orange from the rope frays.
