We have a 3-yearold neutered Husky who has vomited once every morning for the last couple of weeks. It appears to be yellow and foamy with no solid parts and is a fair amount not just like spit up. This happens about the same time EVERY DAY before he eats (he is fed twice a day)and only in the morning. He appears completely healthy otherwise, good appetite, normal urine and stool, normal activity- no other symptoms that we can identify. We have 2 other dogs who are fine. He is kennel trained and I am home during the day so he is not unsupervised in the house or outside and I can't think of anything he could be getting into. He is very sensitive to stress and gets diarrhea when his routine is changed or we are in a strange place but there is nothing upsetting his routine right now. I am trying to avoid an expensive vet bill that we can't afford to hunt for a mystery diagnois. He is on Nutro Ultra weight management dog food as he is about 10 lbs overweight. He has been on this for about 6 weeks and the vomiting only started a couple of weeks ago so I don't think it is the food. Should I be concerned? Any ideas?

IS he drinking a normal amount of water or is he drinking in excess amount or hardly any at all?
its only right before he eats not after? is it in the morning, evening or both?. the fact that he is not throwing up his food right after he eats leads me to believe that is not the food causing it. Has he been eating any grass to aid in digestion? The fact that is yellow makes me wonder if his liver is ok, the yellow may be bile

It ONLY happens in the morning and it only happens once. It is never after he has eaten. Otherwise he is perfectly fine and normal. We don't feed him treats because he is 10 lbs. overweight and he is weight maintenance food. We don't do the rawhide or pigs ears or anything like that as treats for any of our dogs. I know the problems associated with those. He has a Kong (empty) and a nylabone for strong chewers. They have all 3 had only these two toys for months and never had a problem. We always replace the nylabone when it gets worn. I think I am going to call the vet. We love him very much and I can't stand the thought there might be something seriously wrong that we are missing.

It sounds like he is throwing up bile. His stomach is empty and the bile is too much for him to handle. I would try giving him a little bit of his food right before he goes to bed.

I agree with catzmn1976 that this sounds like bile.

It is possible that the "fillers" used to make this weight management food lower calorie are causing the problem, or that he has a problem with one of the other ingredients.
Most likely is that it is moving through his system , quickly due to non digestible fiber but that something they are using as a fat replacement is causing him to overproduce bile. (Bile is used to make fats "water soluable" and transport them across the intestinal wall into the blood stream).
Since the problem began when you changed to this food, my first suggestion would be to try a different food.

Instead of diet food, maybe portion control and more exercise may be a better approach.

But yes, the first thing to do is contact your vet.

Our female lab started having the exact same problem 5 days ago so I'd appreciate any information. She is an aggressive eater, so we feed her 3 smaller meals each day and have done so for over a year. Her food has not changed. Her food is a mix of baked chicken, rice, and vegetables. She vomits between 4:00-5:30 AM, and it is yellow with just a little of the rice in it. She goes for walks twice a day and averages about 3-4 miles. Our other dog is on the same diet/exercise and is fine. If this doesn't stop in another day or two, we will have our vet examine her, but if you have any information, we would love to hear it to pass on to our vet. Thanks!

She is definitly throwing up bile. The fact that there is still rice in the throwup makes me wonder if she is digesting it properly

This person is trying to sell her product, and as we all know, that is against forum rules. Please ignore her posts until Mod Kelly can deal with them.

i have a 6 month old beagle dog, he used to vomit orange/yellow bile every morning at around the same time...7.30am, i have made the effort to wake up at the same time as my dog to feed him a small dog biscuit, this has seemed to stop him throwing up, his normal bi-daily feed starts at 8.30am and he is as happy as ever..

It sounds like your dog may have a tapeworm. The pills we give our pets protect angainst everything but that. My dog was having those same exact symptoms until I treated her for tapeworms. After she expelled the thing, her symptoms were gone.

You can always call your vet's office, I work at one, and we are always happy to help out people and avoid that expensive vet bill. And if they ask you to come in, I would take their advice. But, you do have the right to say no.
Can't hurt to call and ask the professional eh?
