In one of Mod_Kelly's flyers, it says don't post stuff about personal things. Only things that other people can benefit from.
I personally (for dog's sake)don't think people should post stuff on here saying "NEED HELP DOG HAS PARVO". That could put the dog's life in jepaody. But if it is just information about the desease that is fine.
How many agree with me?
If you want to know if you dog has something feel free to post, but don't leave it as your only source. Please do some research while waiting for replies. I am just posting this for the dogs' sake.
I know I am one of the younger ones on here, but I don't post things like "WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE BREED?" And also what is up with all these dog name topics lately. I don't know about you, but I am sick of all the people who spell simple words ALL THE TIME wrong. once in a while I understand because I do it too. But like on the animal precient forum, all the kids mostly say U instead of YOU.
If anyone agrees to this please or at least part of it, please post and tell what you think/feel about what people are saying?
When I first started coming to this forum (I was thirteen) I would use u, 2, etc. and would type in lower case letters. But now I don't. I think that once the members are here for awhile they begin to figure out that this isn't like a chat room. So I say, just give them time. They'll either leave or eventually start typing right.
I'm also not big on the what's wrong with my dog things. Take your dog to the vet and figure it out. I have had a topic about a year ago on a rash that Casey gets every summer. The vet thought it was allergies, but I didn't since I noticed that Carley gets it as well. I got some good guesses on it from here, but I still have no clue what it is.
But at least, the person is trying to figure out what's wrong. Sometimes it doesn't hit them that a few weird things that their dog's doing could be a health problem.
And the dog name topics? Just read some of the person's posts and a lot of the time you can figure them out.
I know I'm still new here and my opinions don't really mean squat to anybody yet, but I just want to say that the articulate writing of animallover1993 and erl1391 really does make me proud of them. I can actually take you guys seriously.

I don't agree with you on help with health issues. Some people just want to hear other experiences, costs, and results. It's information sharing and it's very beneficial. The best thing anyone can do for their pet if it's puking, itching, listless, etc. is take it to the vet. Period. Some people don't do that though... they don't think they can affored it, or just don't know any better. By coming on here and asking what they should do, and having seven people say "go to a vet", maybe they will.
I am sick of the polls, but the members who post them usually post a few things, then dissapear. I've not been here that long, but that's one thing I've noticed. This website has thousands of members, but only about 20-50 active posters at any given time.
This forum is full of young people and some spell awful. When I come across a post in bad spelling, I just ignore it because the bad spelling makes me not take the person seriously at all.
I don't entirely agree that it's bad for people to ask about health problems on here. Naturally a person shouldn't rely entirely on the advice of information gained on an internet forum, and in most cases it is best to take your animal to an LVT...but some people have had similar experiences and can offer advice. And not everyone you'll run across on these boards is just a pet owner. Sometimes you run across animal health care professionals...I don't claim to be the biggest expert ever, but in a few months I'll have my bachelors degree in animal health technology, an LVT. And in a few more years I'll hopefully be in vet school. A lot of my advise is based off of information that I have gathered in my four years as a student, and my clinical experience.
I personally enjoy going to certain forums and asking medical advice because I can get the views and opinions of several different people that may have actually experineced the problem I am going through. It can be very helpful.
I have to agree with everything that animallover said except for the health issues thing. I know that if one of my dogs was sick or in pain I would take them to the vet, but I would want to hear if anyone else had or has that problem with their dogs and share their stories. Just my opinion though. I myself being one of the younger posters here haven't had too terribly much experience yet, but I'm not completely ignorant either. The redundant posts of 'What's your favorite dog breeds' we saw a while back were, after a while, very annoying to me as well, but overall my experience on this board has been rather pleasant. If you were talking of my dog names topic, anmallover, I merely wanted suggestions. I've been so anxious to get this dog, I wanted to do everything perfectly, and when we got my sheltie my family had a name in mind before we got her. I haven't had a huge amount of dogs yet, but give me a little time to grow and learn, and I'll still love and own the best friends I've ever known. By the way, if you read my updated post on Dog Names, you'll notice ' Hey, goldensrock said she would be gone until Sunday'. Well, my dad(after much pleading) let me use his laptop. We're in Georgia now, and going to get my puppy later today. I'm so excited!
First off, this forum is private property owned by The Discovery Channel. They have rules to which we all agree when we join; and they have moderators (in my experience most moderators are non paid volunteers who donate their time because of a dedication to and belief in the community which they are moderating.) to review what is posted and remove violations and warn those who commit them and ban them if necessary.
Secondly, before questioning a rule make sure you fully understand it. That is another thing moderators do, clarify rules and help prevent misunderstandings.
I find it far more likely that when Mod Kelly said "don't post stuff about personal things" it did not mean do not post things about your personal experiences with your pet or about your own pet. What is far more likely is that as is common on all forums they do not want you to post anything about your personal life which is not pertinent. IE, if you are a dog trainer or competitor it would be just fine to discuss the show you attended and your results; but if you are a teenager and want to talk about meeting the opposite sex using your dog it would not be.
Likewise, a "my dog has parvo what should I do " thread would be appropriate because most of us would tell you you should be discussing this with your vet and that you should have had your dog vaccinated.. This would be beneficial to anyone wondering if they should vaccinate their dog.
Of course, it is up to the moderators to determine what is appropriate and remove what they feel is not .
I don't agree with not posting "my dog has parvo". I think that some of the posters just want advice about the disease in general so they can make decisions. What I'm tired of is the food debates going on..but that's just me. And of course, the misspelling REALLY irritates me. And animallover1993, I've noticed that when you type, you sometimes do the same thing(maybe unconsciously?) and use "U" instead of "you". We need a spell check on this forum cause those misspellings really get annoying sometimes. And "my dog has parvo" is not a personal issue..if the poster wants to make it personal, they can with trolling and flaming another poster on here for disagreeing with them about a certain issue or situation. I also think that the mods on here should get a little more involved with the conversations and should warn posters when they have gone too far. But that's just my .02

No offense, but if you're annoyed by people not spelling words right, did you happen to notice that you didn't spell jeopardy right?
People shouldn't come here looking for a diagnosis. I totally agree that if there is something wrong with your dog, the first place you should go is to the vet, NOT an internet forum.
However, people coming on here who know what their dog has, have seen the vet, gotten the vets prescription and want to know more about the problem or talk to people who have had experience with it is fine.
