I have a Boston Terrier with severe skin allergies and I switched all my dogs over to Wellness Core dry and Wet food, I also put a teaspoon of Olive Oil in it at feeding (recommended by the vet) which helps like a moisturizer. They are doing wonderful on it and no itching.
Thanks for your help everyone! My aunt actually talked to a friend whose dog has allergies. And her friend has another friend that also has an allergy dog. Both have put there dogs on Innova and the dogs did great, no more itching, and huge improvements overall. I'm going to try that and hopefully my dog's allergy problems will go away too.
Just a note. A friend of mine has an Australian Shepherd that is allergic to Turkey, Lamb, Pork, and Beef. He's also allergic to rice and other grains. She has him on Vetscription (?) food. It's rabbit and something. I tried to get a hold of her (she's a vet student, as well), but she's a slippery one. I thought she might be able to help. My dogs don't have any food allergies. Just gas issues. (They rattle the windows. I'm changing from Nutro after these two 40 lb. bags are gone.)
My vet wants to prescribe a duck food for my dog. But I really like to do things my own way when it comes to dog food.
So far, I don't know what my dog is allergic to. It may be environmental, but I really think it's grains. But it could be something like lamb. It's so hard to find out. If it is grains, I'll also have to start making my own dog treats. Grainless dog treats have GOT to be expensive and hard to find.
I've looked into it, but it is not always accurate. And it looks like the most accurate process is quite the procedure during and after. I would go for the most accurate. But it takes precision and there's the chance that during the process the dog may actually become more sensitive to a certain allergen. For the time being, there's some things I'm going to try, and if those don't work, then I'll have to think about it.
