Contrary to popular beleif....it is NOT ok to feed your dog tylenol, asprin, and other medications...I would rather go to the vet and get DOG medicine instead....it is important because alot of the side effects are bad such as: internal bleeding, can be fatal.

Benadryl is fine. corgisrlovable is right tho. Tylenol and ibuprofen are really bad for dogs. Aspirin should only be given if recommended by your vet as it can cause GI upset and ulcers. It's also important to have bloodwork done before starting any kind of non-steroidal inti-inflammatory to make sure there is no pre-existing liver or kidney issues. These drugs, tho rare, can affect those organs so it's important to monitor those levels closely while your dog is on them.

Thanks for the input!
Yes this is true but you have to be careful with benedryl as with any over-the-counter drug. I don't have the book but they named a few including: asprin, and tylenol. They also said that you SHOULD NOT give your dog any perscribed drugs....but I don't know anyone who does that....
I do know someone who used benedryl for her dog and the dog is fine....I am just saying that some drugs are REAL BAD for the dog...although some people think that it will fix the dog (in a sense) like it does humans....like when people mistake that dogs have a COMPLETELY DIFFERNT diet than humans! Ok....sorry...going off topic...but anyways..I am glad for the input!

Yes, I agree 100% Only give your dog people medication if the vet recommends it. I've only given my dog Benadryl, and have been told by my vet that it's okay for her due to her allergic reactions.

I am glad! Smile lol well....that is cool! But I have never given my Corgi benedryl because, well, he has never needed it. But I do know some people that use it for their dogs. It is a good thing to treat your dog well and the makers of benedryl have made it safe to help with allergic reactions! YAY!

I have heard all the same stuff from my vet. The three things that my vet has had me give my Rotti and Boston Terrier is 1) Benadryl which they get every single day. Which the vet says is fine 2) Pepto Bismal which the vet says is okay and 3) My Rotti has gotten St Joseph's baby asprin for his leg when he got hurt.

But I agree only a vet should tell you what is and is not okay. Luckily these meds have helped my dogs tremedously. My Rotti is going to be 10 years old and still acts like a puppy.

That is great news! Thanks everyone! I just thought it might be important to get out the word....I think that so many things are happening to animals around the world...that shouldn't happen....we (like everyone on the planet earth) take dogs for granted....I guess I should really think of my dog as a uh...blessing and it is a miraculous thing that he loves me! I mean...he could just flat out hate me....but he doesn't.
I love dogs and most of the people on here do the same...It is cool to be around some of your types of people....because when I talk about dogs at school everyone thinks I care too much or something....but I just think it to be natural....oh...well....you can't change everything....just put one paw in front of the other and keep moving...lol....I love this site!

You're right, everyone here is crazy about our dogs, and their other anamals despite our differeces of opionions. I, too, am accused of being "too involved" with my dogs. But I don't care. I'm enjoying my life, maybe those people who just don't understand, should try owning a dog and getting outside of themselves. Anyway, I like your enthusiasm, keep it up!! Smile
