Okay so I will make this short. I need help wit getting a new GSD. I would like it to be solid black if that is possible and a male. It needs to be younger then 1 year.

The problem: I live in Netherlands Antilles. A small island which has almost NO dog breeds. I have placed many adds asking for a GSD puppy. No one replied or called or e-mailed. I asked petshops and they told me that GSD's are really hard to find on the island. Everyone gets there dog outside. I asked him from were he told me Florida. So I searched Florida for breeders, my luck there all 1000+ dollars for a puppy. Our money currency is lower so 1000 dollars is almost 2000 gilders for me and that is wAY to much. I tried asking shelters because they have purebreds that needs loving homes most of the time. They all told me no and I have to come personal. MY problem is that I cannot go there personal.

But everyone I ask here, they told me that they e-mail the person with the dog and then they pay online and pay a shipping agent. I asked the shipping agent already and I know the prices. But I have no luck finding a breeder or a GSD puppy that I can actually afford. Shelters say no and Breeders are to expensive and hard to find. What shall I do to actually get one!!?

So I have searched petfinder, petharbor, 1800 save a pet. I have asked almost every shelter or pet rescue if I can adopt a dog out of the area they all say no. I do understand that they have house inspection.

Other then that I tried finding breeders. The puppy prices are way to expensive and then I would need shipping too. I need help finding a GSD in Fl and I need advice on getting one. I know a lot about the breed but I mean advice on the process of getting one, shipment were I can get one etc. PLZ HELP me I have been searching for almost 2 years now!

Solid black is not an acceptable color. Responsible breeders won't breed that color. I suggest you stick with the traditional tan and black.

Puppies worth having aren't cheap. The most reputable breeders out there probably won't have their dogs at a cheap price. But a reputable breeder is what you want to go for. Most of them won't do shipping either.

I suggest you change what you are looking for. Look for a GSD, no matter what the color is. Raise the age a bit too. Most people want the dogs at their puppy stages. I suggest you start looking for a dog around the age of 6 months-3 years. It gives you more possibility.

Since I don't live where you do, it's hard to tell you exactly what to do. I would just lower my standards and wait a little longer. Maybe start saving money for one of those expensive puppies.

It's that breeders can be a fraud and I am afraid to send so much money and when it can be a fraud. Shelters I am sure that they have the dogs and the personality is written.

The other part is that I don't want to pay so much money and then it might die. So I will stick to a older dog then a puppy of a few months old. The other thing is that I just want a GSD for a family member. The dog will be neutered and I'm not going to breed or show him. Just a family member, it will go in obedience though.

The best thing to do is to just keep looking. Maybe you can think about getting a different breed of dog even. The perfect dog is out there somewhere.

talltail, not true at all

AKC just doesn't LIKE all black it is very popular in germany and IS an accepted colour. all WHITE isn't accpted by akc.

Disqualifications
Cropped or hanging ears.
Dogs with noses not predominantly black.
Undershot jaw.
Docked tail.
White dogs.
Any dog that attempts to bite the judge.

See nothing about black dogs at all. MANY responsible breeders will breed black dogs and why not?

Then, I was wrong. I've heard that before and I apparently heard wrong. I'm not an expert on GSD and I don't see many black colored ones. Often, I find the word 'rare' tacked on when I see black GSD for sale, and seeing that always make me wary. I guess that color GSD just isn't as popular here in the US. I apologize Delene, but I still would not go for a dog based off of their color.

Ethical breeders of gsd's and america can't be spoken in the same breath. I prefer my dog's butt to not drag on the floor.

Again, I honestly wouldn't know. I don't own a GSD or shown an interest in owning one. I don't have any friends or family members that own one. It was just what I have heard. But you seem to know more about them then I do, so I believe you.

I'm not a fan of most American bred GSD's. They're incredibly prone to hip displaysia... and that god awful gate that they have. Why does the butt drag the ground, anyway? The stance isn't attractive. It's signature to the breed, but what's the purpose?

My father has two AKC Shepherds. Nice looking dogs from afar, but when you get close... -=Shudder.=- Their "wrists" almost touch the ground, the "stance" is so bad that they do look like they're sit-walking. These dogs were bought, in confidence, from "good" AKC breeders. Nice looking dogs, until they hit around four years of age. Then it was all downhill from there.

(If I appear snappy, it's because we're having some custody issues with our two year old son. My partner's mother has decided that it's not fit for the boy to have two mothers... and she's not fond of the 3 Great Danes, either. She's tagging them as nasty. -=Rolls eyes.=- Yes... my nasty dogs tolerate the two year old sitting on them, pulling their ears, and dragging them around the house with a wagging tail. Evil beasts... -=Grump.=-)

Ah... since we're talking about dogs and what-not, let's talk about female ones, like her mother.

She seems to think that since Meg was a teen mother, she can keep the kid.

Since I'm not legally a parent and I want to say not-so-nice things, I've been shut up in the bedroom.
