I have a 4month old pitbull mix named Lucy. Lucy will mouth, snap, bite and growl at me whenever I pet or play with her! I take care of her 24/7 Everything from walks to feeding and training! But, when my husband comes home she is as sweet as pie with him. Its tail wagging and licking for him and almost any stranger who greets her - while I am getting painful bites. Does anyone have suggestions or comments on what could be going on?
You need to watch "It's me or the dog" on animal planet. You will learn that your dog is having no regard for you but there is hope. You say you are doing the training. So when you feed the dog, first pretend to eat it first. Let him watch you. Then give it to him. Let him know you are boss dog. The growling is what worries me. All puppies bite and mouths. Their teeth hurt. Growling hmmmm. Over my head sorry.
i couldn't help but giggle a little bit. sorry, but it's kind of unusual. I agree with doghome. also, try this: you, your husband, and lucy should go in a room in the house. then, go and pet the dog. your husband should ignore her. then, if she growls, you both leave the room, but lucy stays. wait 5 sec. and go back in. keep doing this until you start to see and improvement.
You might want to try being more dominate. Pits are very hyper, my 2 year old will still mouth when she gets hyper. You can use food to distract her, and hold her down when she starts bitting. You may want professional help if this continues.
