Spell Check's a useful tool, but it can't tell whether you have experience negotiating contracts with unions or with onionsSmile
At work I'm an annoying member of the spelling/grammar police, but a little more patience is called for on these forums. If people express themselves clearly enough so I know what they're talking about, I don't have a problem.

At the expense of redundancy, that was a very entertaining post littledog; and I agree, spell check would be nice for those of us who are not the greatest at it.

MY TWO CENTS
The quality of postings here have gone down. I know this makes me sound like a snob, but I call them as I see them. I have even started a couple of threads regarding recent animal-related boooks I have read. I hardly got any replies. I was hoping some of the younger members would actually pick up a book and open their minds. One way to learn is to read.

I miss the old days when we would get into discussions and debates about serious dog related issues. I realize that they often became heated. I know I was quite often a pain in those debates. But I know I always came away feeling that I learned something.

Now about the grammar and spelling. I am sure anyone of you could go back and find many errors in my posts. I also realize that we need to be patient with new, young posters. But there has to be a limit. If the posters using atrocious grammar are indeed five or six years old they should not be using an internet sight without parental guidance. Any older, I hope they work on improving their skills. Job applications are judged more harshly.

Thanks for letting me vent. Smile

piece of advice for those having trouble with spelling or grammar:

Type your post into a program like MicroSoft Word or other program that has a built in spellchecker. It will tell you what you mispelled and typically help you correct your mistakes.

Simple things like that, make things easier to read and easier to assist.

I just downloaded the new edition of mozilla firefox, and it has an automatic spell check in any browser window you have open.

It automatically underlines in red, words you have misspelled. You can then right click on the word and the dictionary will come up with common similar spelled words to replace the misspelled word with.

Mozilla Firefox has a built-in Grammar/Spelling checker and when you make a mistake, there is a red bar underneath the word, you can then right click on the word and it gives you a list to choose from.

Thought I'd give my 2 cents worth. Smile

Hope it helps. Smile

I don't usually have any problems with spelling (spelling was actually my strongest subject in elementary school), but if there's a word I can't remember how to spell, don't know how to spell or aren't sure, I just look it up at www.dictionary.com. Or if I'm lazy, I just spell it the best I can and then put (sp?) at the end Big Grin

But really, if you generally use good grammer and don't use silly internet shorthand, then most people don't mind the odd misspelled word or notice it unless you've totally butchered it.

Oh, and somebody mentioned on the first page about others getting mad because they have a conflicting opinion...Be sure you have info to back it up. I think I speak for most when I say that there's nothing more irritating than somebody coming here with this huge, strong opinion on something but can't or won't back it up with legible sources yet continue to shove it in our faces with an "my way or the highway" attitude.

You do have very good spelling. I on the other hand am lousy. I am sure you will find errors in my postings.

I don't mind the occasional spelling mistake. We all make them. But when a posting is full of grammatical and spelling errors I can't take it seriously. In fact, I notice postings that are full of mistakes get very few responses, espically from the veterans.

So, please take your time and use some method to correct your mistakes.

I sometimes tend to write a lot. I am only trying to help. I never have rated myself and but I don't get what you mean by "flood the message boards" does that mean answering many questions or does it mean putting up random things all over. I do answer many questions but only to answer and help. I have posted a question twice because I needed help really bad and nobody replied so I shortened my question and re-posted it. Still nobody is answering. I am giving up on that stupid topic because nobody cares. I haven't seen anyone rate themself or post something a million times or talk about how two people have the same breed and such but I do agree that people shouldn't do that.

What does spelling and grammer have too do with anything? I mean i understand your point on being annoyed and completly agree, but some of us just flat out cant spell very well (me) does that mean that we cant learn too. Sorry, i just dont see what spelling and grammer have too do with the rest of the topic.

Sorry, but my annoying side is coming out so I can't help but point out that the spelling of the word meaning correct use of the English language is "grammar" (not "grammer"). My annoying little obsession out of the way, "flooding the boards" means posting a reply to everything you see, no matter how inane your reply (we get a lot of that on the horse board). This makes it a lot harder to find responses to our requests for help, or to find the results of our offers to help someone who has asked a question. Still, if someone has a legitimate need for help or a knowledgeable response to our questions, I don't care about their spelling or "grammer".

New to this so I don't want to be one that floods the boards, can you suggest one where I can get some advise on how to handle a sticky situation with the Rescue that owns the dog that I am fostering? They don't agree with the food, medication or my Veterinarian's recommendations. This is an abused and most probably a ferrell dog.

Understanding what someone is trying to say is what it has to do with it. Like I said before, Mozilla Firefox has a built in spell check. It will underline the misspelled word in red, you right click on it, and change it to the proper spelled word. After all, isn't this why children and adolescents go to school from age 6 to age 18. To learn how to do "stuff".
