My dog, Jasmine, chews up all of her chew toys. Even with rope on it. She does have a powerful jaw, but this is ridiculous!! Also, she tries to eat sticks!! She's being fed a proper diet, she gets two some-what long walks a day (plus playing in the yard), and we're stumped on what to do. Just yesterday, I came home from school and found out she chewed up one of my stuffed animals!! I know that was probably just bordism, but we don't know what kind of chew toys (excluding RAWHIDE toys) to buy her. And what do we do about her trying to eat sticks? Please help us!!

You could get a kong toy they are really tough. our dog destroys all her other toys but not her kongs. plus you can put treats inside kongs and that will keep her busy for awhile.. I don't know what to tell you about the sticks I've had that problem with every dog I've had...still haven't quite figured out how to stop it.

Thanks for the suggestion, but what exactly is a kong?

if you go to any pets store you'll find it. Its made of thick rubber and is kind of cone shaped with cylinder hollow on the inside. You can stuff treats in it. my dogs already figured how to geth them out though so if you want to make it more difficult you could put cheese or peanut butter on the inside and freeze. I also use a hollow, thick cattle bone that they love. I just spread a small amount of peanut butter and they love it. My hound also destroys every single toy hes ever gotten, even tough rubber ones, except for the kong and bone. Just make sure you clean it out everyday. Sometime food remains inside the kong and gets gross and could grow mold from the moisture (you can use an old toothbrush to clean it well) good luck!

That is what chew toys are for. Chewing. I've had dogs eat sticks also.

Be careful careful of kongs!!! When they chew these up they can get an intestinal blockage. I know a couple dogs that almost died from eating kongs. Vets don't catch it at first or the kong also causes infection. Can be dangerous. The same goes for any other toy. Some will pass easier then a chunk of kong though.

Kongs are good. we got one for my swissy, who is 36 in. and 150 lbs. He has very powerful jaws, but he can't chew them 2 pieces.

Isn't that what they're for?

My dog is 45lbs and 10yrs old. I guess she has strong jaws too.

I also know another dog who was about 50lbs which almost died after chewing up a kong. It didn't get a complete blockage but a partial one. It was basically stuck in his intestine and caused him a serious infection. His body was toxic and he became extremely ill. Someone else's dog chew one up too, but they didn't ingest any of it. I was simply trying to warn them of the danger.

A dogs large size doesn't mean they will have strong jaws. A smaller dog with a harder bite then a larger dog would be one example. It also doesn't mean that they will use them to their full potential either. Some dogs its a matter of won't instead of can't. I had a female with a very soft bite but she could have bit harder if she wanted, just didn't.

I'm sure most of my dogs can destroy the toys even though only some do. Some make it their job to pick every toy apart.

Off topic how do you like your Swissy? Someone mentioned this is a breed I should consider and that I might like. I'm not sure yet as I haven't made any decisions either way. So many breeds. No one on the other forums really had personal experience with them.

They're expensive but well worth if you have a dog that destroys everything. You don't have to worry about the lost $$$ or them getting sick from digesting something that's no good for them, or worse yet, getting a blockage.

Thanks everyone!!

Most of you are saying that that's what they're for. Yes, I know that. They are for chewing not chewing through. That's what I want. I want a chew toy my dog can chew without chewing it up. We cannot afford to keep buying new toys when she chews the ones she has up.

Just recently we got a "Wiggly Giggly" Ball. The box says "Extra durable for pets. Great for dogs and ferrets!". She's already chewed through that. And she's only two.

Sorry but there isn't a substance that exists that is chewy but can't be chewed through. Getting new chew toys is one of the expenses of having a dog.

There is no such thing as an indestructible chew toy. Your only option is to supervise the dog while playing with a toy and to remove it when it gets overly excited. That's about all you can do, either that or not get it chew toys.

okay. Thanks. Well, is there any type of toy you recommend for stimulation? Other than a Kong I mean.

1.) You don't have to be rude about it. Yes, I'm not blind. I read it. I cannot afford that and I'm not even going to bother looking around for it b/c I can't buy anything off of the computer.

2.) Maybe I should refrase that. Anything other than the stuff other people have already suggested.

there really aren't any cheap recreational toys i would suggest. Everything worth it's salt is expensive.

Lol the cheap stuff is cheap because it's made cheap. I don't think she was being rude, just pointing out the expense could be worth it. Instead of buying toys over and over again, take that money and instead save it up for one really good durable toy, some of the expensive toys have a guarantee.

Yes, I don't think that she was trying to be rude either, but it sure looked like it. For all she knows, I don't like the toy.

And thanks, we have been trying to save money for her, I guess we could buy a more expensive toy.

I wasn't trying to be rude. You asked a question, people responded, and then you made excuses why you couldn't execute any of the responses generated, or just ignored them completely.

If you're going to be a dog owner, you can't be "cheap" about quality products.

If you want to continue to buy your dog $4.99 toys every other week, well then guess what? In a few weeks you could have bought a toy that didn't rip to shreds and possibly make your dog sick.

Simple math.
