we recieved a dane from a rescue 3 weeks ago, he seemed a bit put off by my daughter and myself at first, but loves my husband to no end.
my husband let him get into the bed with us, because he thought he was afraid at first.
because my 15 yr old daughter gets up in the morning first, she puts the animals out, at first we had to coax and then tell him sternly to get off the bed. then she came in to get him and he growled at her. i got up, told him bad and put him out.
all was well for awhile, until this week, she came in to get him, talked to him sweetly, reached down to get his collar and he actually bite her. it wasn't hard, but enough to leave a mark. now my husband takes him out.
he was at the vet and got fixed right before we brought him home, and got an all clear. he is 3 yrs old.
we are taking him back to the vet to have him checked again,(just in case) i think he has a bit of a ear prob. because it is starting to smell.
i was just wondering if anyone had this prob. with a rescue? i don't know if he is afraid, my daughter is going to take him away from his new daddy ????
my daughter is no longer allow to correct him, instead, she has treats and when she comes in, she gives him some love and a treat.
he is no longer allowed in our bed.(thank god)
instead i made him a very soft bed, beside our bed.
is there anything else i can do to make sure this doesn't ever happen again? am i handling this correct? HELP!
