My 9 month old puppy prefers to go in the house even if he is left outside for 1/2 an hour. He comes right into the house, searches for a corner and takes care of business. To top this off, his previously house-trained brother (2 years old) is now urinating in the house. Also-not that this is such a major issue-but the puppy eats the older dogs fecies. Any suggestions (other then the conventional ones that I have been trying) on how to stop the boys from using the house as a toilet would be great. Thanks

well first, if you leave your dog outside for a half an hour is not going to help, Second, try staying outside with your pup. Or if that doesn't work, Try putting clear duck tape were she pees.

Yeah, that is true, leaving your dog outside for half an hour isn't going help at all.. try to play with your puppy that will help her pee or poop more easily and when she does, praise her and reward her then bring her back inside, so now she knows, "okay so when I have to go to the bathroom, I'll go outside".

I never knew about putting duct tape on the spots where she peed or pooped. I would just say "NO" in a firm voice and put him/her up and put her/him outside and play, but do it in the midst or the beginning of her/him peeing or pooping.

I hope this helps. Smile Good luck. Smile

I agree with all other suggestions about getting them to stop peeing in the house. I also just learned though even after you clean it and you can not smell it anymore they can smell it and there instinct is to go there because they can smell it. My neighbor actually just told me about using peroxide on the soiled areas and that will get it out. As well as Nature's Miracle makes something to get rid of the smell.

And as far as him eating the others poop. The pet store also cares stuff that you can mix in there food (safely) that will make in unappealing to eat. So that could stop as well.

Hope you can work it out.

Why use clear duct tape?

So it doesn't soak into carpet or as a way to stop the behavior?

Yeah I agree with Chrissy3036!!! Because even if you can't smell it your dog can!!! Maybe if you have a black light run that over the pee spots to see where she has peed and keep an eye on your dog if she/he goes over there!!

first sit your puppy down next to where she peed and clean it up with paper towel in front of her while she is sitting there the whole time sternly saying "You go pody outside!!" once dont, go outside with your dog and the papertowel you used to soak up the urine and sit your dog down in the desired area u want it to go outside and set the papertowel next to it. Let your dog sniff the papertowel while you say "PODY OUTSIDE!" sternly. once done, bring your puppy inside and pat her on the head and say "OK" in a sweet and nice and calm tone. after the puppy walks away, sprinkle salt over the area and around the area where your dog peed so that the next time she tries to sniff and "go" there, salt will fly up her nose which will tell her its not a good idea to "go" inside anymore. Make sure that everytime your dog goes to the bathroom outside you praise her A LOT with a happy voice, pats on the head, and most of all...TREATS! your dog will want to go pody outside more often if she knows she gets treats out of it!
