I live in a small community in Southeast Georgia (Odum). I have been here for three years. The neighborhood was ideal to live in, until one of my neighbors decided to get him a pit bull. This dog is nothing more than terror unleashed. He came upon a small child and frightened her and nearly attacked her. He has come at a couple of my neighbors who have since moved - and the dog has actually bitten me. This dog has even chased big trucks.

He is an aggressive pit bull - and his owner (former chief of police) seems to care nothing about what the dog does or where it goes.

I went to City Hall, contacted Animal Control in Wayne County (which is a joke to start with because I have never heard of our animal control officer actually doing anything but driving around in his truck to waste time), and the result was nothing.

I feel that Georgia needs a definite leash law, but I just don't see it coming. For some reason in Georgia, the dog owner is favored when it comes to a dog attacking someone. And in this community, it does little good to complain. You could prove it to me that ANY ordinance is maintained in Wayne County, Georgia - let alone a leash ordinance that is SUPPOSED to be in effect.

I'm out of answers and can't take anymore of this pit bull. I drive a motorcycle and it's a nightmare often just trying to get to work or get home. It would do no good to talk to the owner; his own brother-in-law works in county law enforcement, so you can imagine what I"m up against (a "good ol' boys" network)

I don't know if anyone here has gone through anything similar, but I had to get this off my chest. A dear friend of mine wanted to give me a kitten recently, and I'm deathly afraid to have a pet. The pit bull has been known to roam my street and has already killed one of my neighbor's puppies.

You need to start taking pictures and documenting the cases of this dog.

You need to be diligent and call teh police whenever the dog is running loose and causing a threat to the neighborhood.

The first step in reforming laws or making them better starts with you.

Good luck and I hope that you can solve the problem of this nusince dog.

p.s. Not all pit bulls are terror dogs. Please remember that. When the owners don't care and don't train and care for their pets, that's what leads to bad dogs.

I have neighbors that are irresponsible too. I HATE it. They have a female australian shepherd mix and a puppie from her. The female is off getting bred, but the puppy is still home. When and if she gets back, she will teach the pup how to chase cars, attack local dogs going for walks with owners, and chase cows.

I live in a rural area out of out where there is no animal control or dog catcher. The puppy once followed me two miles away from his home and I left him with a friend over night to see if the owners would notice he was gone. Come to find out they went and got him. I guess they at least know they own a dog.

It makes it unsafe for my dogs to go out of my yard so I can no longer take them on bike rides, walks, or go rollerskating with them because my neighbors don't care what their dogs do. What should I do with them female? She is the only one attacking my dogs. The puppy is socialized with all of the other neighbor hood dogs that run loose but aren't trouble. My dogs are on leash and get attacked. Please if you think I am a hoax don't worry. Just answer my questions this once. I really do need advice. My dogs can't even leave my yard without getting attacked.

Questions:
What should I do with the female? She hasn't been on a leash ever and she is 7 yrs. old.
IF nothing, how can I take my dogs on walks...and have them protected from fights?

Please don't high jack others threads and make them into your own topics.

Please make a new topic and people will answer it, be patient.

If no one answers, then no one has any ideas to help you. Your problems are pretty much beyond anyone's control except your neighbors or the local police department, ASPCA or humane society.

Angeeleeta, I do have my own thread about it already. I have asked people on a few different websites as well. They all say call animal control. They do not work in my town. People reply again as they don't believe me or that is stupid. These answers don't help.

I read petloverringa's post and I thought it had the most of the same problems I had. I posted to see if anyone could help me with advice. My advice would help her also in the long run.

I didn't want to post advice because people avoid it but the people who don't know me could use it and the results could be extremely bad. I try to this to please people. The quicker I build back trust the better. I really would post advice if I had some and I didn't have the same neighbor dog problem.

Petloveringa, and Animallover1993, I have problems with loose dogs in my town too. I go biking with my dog, and we have been attacked several times by loose dogs.

My solution, carry a sturdy stick. You could also invest in a cattle prod, taser, or mace. Some people may say that's mean, but I am only interested in protecting myself and my dogs. If people are going to be irresponsible enough to let their aggressive dogs loose, then it's unfortunate that their may come home rather beat up after an encounter with me. I love dogs and cats very much, but I will not stand by and watch my dog be mauled because I felt guilty about hurting some stranger's bad dog.

Hi all. This is my first time posting but I've been lurking around on the forum before.

I have a 1 1/2 year old Peek-a-(something - maybe a poodle), she 's a great dog. House/crate trained. Had our first basic obedience class last night, but that was without her.

But getting back on topic here, I have alot of neighbors around my area who let their dog go without a leash even though it's a yorkie but still. Alot of people also in my area, don't take their dogs for walks in the mornings and in the evenings, like I do. Even worse when they don't even clean up after thier pet when there is phyiscal dog poop on the sidewalk and in the grass all the way down the street and there is a "poop stand" on the sidewalk.
