my mom recently adopted a 13 month old chihuahua. this is the most timid dog we have ever met . she won't even look you in the eye she holds her head down like a child in trouble. she sits and stares into space like she's day dreaming and if you enter the room she's gone. any suggestions on how we can help her and bring her out of her shell at least some? she's very devoted to my mom but she will literally hide her face behind her back when she;s sitting in the chair.
I have a boy chihuahua, (he has pictures in the pet pics gallery) and I might know what to do. Do you crowd around her? She's probably a bit upset over that, if not, maybe it will take her time before she gets used to you all.
we don't crowd her at all . she's had her about 2 months now it's so bad that my mom can't even touch her when she's up and about only when she sits in a cahir or lies down on the bed will she come and sit next to her. she runs from her and she lives alone. it's not like there's a house full of people.
Toss training treats toward her. When she eats one, praise her. Sit on the floor. If she bolts, wait for her to come back. This is patience in it's finest. This will take a while.
