My puppy swallowed a little metal bell that was on her collar. She is just a 5lbs schnoodle. I think that the best move is to give food that gives her the runs and watch her, make sure she is still eating and pooping properly, until it comes out. Is this a good idea and how long should I wait if it doesnt come out until I go to the vet?

THanks for all your help!

no such thing as a schnoodle, i'd rather call my dog a mutt/mixed breed than that name anyway yuck.

In and case you need to go to the vet immediately!
How long should you wait?! you should have taken your dog to the vet the instant it swallowed the bell!

i agree totally and who puts a bell on their dogs collar?! why dont you just put a tag on the colar that he/she CANT swallow. another thing you should have been watching your dog more closely because the second my dog had had something in her mouthi would grab it and correct her. i wouldnt let her swallow it

I know this issue is resolved, but since I found these forums by searching for a topic I thought adding a bit of information to this thread might be a good idea.

Please don't ever do anything to force your dog to have diarrhea. I understand that pets cannot be watched 24 hours a day. That's just ridiculous to expect of anyone. Sometimes pets get into trouble, that's normal. Obviously if your pet swallows something you're going to want to telephone the vet at the very least, but sometimes if the object is non-threatening the vet will tell you to let the dog pass it naturally. You don't want to make the dog sick on purpose, though. Diarrhea causes dehydration as well as other problems, and it will not help your dog pass the object, but could cause quite a few complications.

Anyway - sburkhead, is your dog doing better now? I hope so. I hope you return to let us know how it all worked out.

I found these forums when I was searching for something about my puppy, and I think it's an amazing resource. I've been going through and answering some of the questions that I have answers to. I can see there are a *lot* of new people who seem to register to ask a question then never come back, and there seems to be a *lot* of children who don't seem to be familiar with forum etiquette who post here. If more of the people who come to post a single question, like I did, would stick around and participate a little bit then the pet area here would be an awesome little corner of the internet! If nothing else, I'm trying to wrap up some of the threads that don't have actual answers in them, in case someone searches for something the way I did and finds their way here.

Anyway, it's nice to meet you, kitty. I've seen your posts on lots of the threads around here. I look forward to chatting with you some more! BTW - do you know how the Private Message service works here? I keep asking in threads but getting no answers, and I cannot figure it out!

Vet!!! You dog will probably need it surgically removed because they won't want a bell in the dog with medicine trying to get it up one way or another.
