Hi, I have a Cavapoo that is about 1 yr 7 months. He is so smart and is totally housebroken, least he is at our house. We took him on vacation with us like we have done a few times with no problems, This time my sister caught him peeing on the back of the chair and I caught him hicking his leg to pee on her couch. They have a dog that visits them, it's his 1/2 sister actually and they just love to play with each other, and she had aways been there when we arrived, except the time before last when her daughter wasn't visiting at the same time with here dog. This time she was there though an the played together like they awalys do. I was embarassed because Bandit is such a good dog and has never pee'd on anything at anyones house before. How do I stop him from doing this again at someone elses house or theirs?
First the is no such thing as a "cavapoo" it's a mutt/mongrel/mixed breed whatever but using designer breed names for a mix just encourages the horrendous fad.
To the question: He is marking the territory as his and this needs to be treated as you would with any house training. You know he can't be trusted out of the house so while you're at someone else's house keep him on leash, when he tries to pee correct him and say outside and then take him outside to do his business.
We have the idea of putting a dog diaper on my dog, and letting him be only upstairs. We take it off outside, and this has worked fantasticaly! he is perfectly trained.
Most boy dogs will mark their territory. It might help if he is neutered, which if you're not planning on breeding him is a good idea any way for other reasons as well. A lot of neutered dogs still mark, and he just has to be taught that its unacceptable to go anywhere inside, but let him mark as many trees as he wants to outside. You probably would have success using whatever tactic you used to house train him in the first place, maybe he shouldn't be allowed free run of the house at your sister's place. Whenever i dog sit my sister's 2 dogs her male always wants to mark too, so i confine all 4 of them to the kitchen if im busy (so if he goes at least its easy to clean up) and like badkitty suggested i sometimes keep him on a leash if im running around the house because he wont do it right in front of me. Good luck!
