I recently got a 4 month old pitt bull.. he is honestly the sweetest dog i have ever met. I work at a dog kennel so Ive met all types of dogs and he truly is the nicest most affectionate puppy ever! I am also saddened by all of the negative things people think about pitts. Jobe (my pitt puppy) acts like any other breed would at his age. Everyone that sees him wants to pet him and give him kisses, until they ask me what breed he is and I say pitt bull, and then most people look up at me in shock and become a little nervous. I look down upon those who judge pitts because of their reputation. Even though i really dont think Jobe would ever harm anyone or anything, I am still a responsible owner and am training him and giving him the intensive excersize that he needs everyday I am going to post some pics of him on here soon, so you can all see how cute my precious baby is!
Because the ARistas and the media have taken advantage of the masses and instilled fear at the name "Pit Bull" why not fudge it a little? Try some variations on Pit Bull perhaps? For example, American Bull Terrier or American Terrier. Certainly anyone who has a Staffordshire Terrier would want to use that name. And say it with love and pride. You will need to be your breeds best salesperson. The AR's have been successful in scaring the public with their years of negative press. It will be an uphill battle to fight their lies and distortions. It is a matter of life and death for this breed.
For the rest of the board- It is great to be loud and proud about having your bully, but there are some other proud owners who treat their dogs right... and don't represent the breed properly. I have nothing wrong with the term "pitbull," in reference to the type of dog. However, there are those good pitty owners who spout off about having such awesome, powerful dogs and don't really go on about the dogs loving side. How they do with children and other people that they meet.
When I used to go to the BARC Park in Akron, Ohio... there were many pitbull owners (from APBT, Staffies, and more) that brought their dogs to the park itself and park sanctioned events to educate the general public on the lesser known points of the dog. Not just the toughness and strength.
I hope your not comparing smoking weed to dog fighting cuz there's a HUGE diffrence. 1. smoking weed isn't killing something (ok maybe a couple brain cells) 2. it's not legal under ANY circumstances (medical marijuana). But anyways I think there should be more awareness on all the misunderstood breeds, I know they talk about how the reputation for the amstaff is false in most cases on the dog shows but that's really not enough.
I know alot of people think its pittbull or pitt bull or even pitbull but its pit bull. Just wanted to clear it up for some reason pittbull makes me mad even though theres really not much of a reason.
i have a pit bull and she is a very sweet dog. the woly rezen why people dont like them is because they have herd thing about the bedds that is not true about there nacher. the only rezen the are mean is because there owners wont them to be like that and it is very mean for the breed. over thew time i have had me pit bull i have lerned that they are very nice dog and they love to be with there woner as much as they can. the also live to pless there owners. they also can take care of your house for you.
Pits are very sweet and gental, it is not there fault that people use them for fighting, and make them a bad name. They did not choose to have those fighting skills, of there past generations. Back in the older days they were not used to figt they were used to hunt. And today they should not be used to fight either. It is just horrible the way that people make them fight to there deth, just so they can make a few dollars. Also it all depends on how you train your dog. If you are sweet to your dog then your dog will be nice, but if you train your dog to be aggressive that that is how your dog will act, and that is the sad part because that is how loyal your dog would be for you. You dog would dye for you and all you care about is if it wins the fight or not.
I own an American Staffordshire Terrier and when the pitbull was banned in the city here, she was put up for adoption. And we took her.
Everyone in my neighborhood here is the kind of person that would do a lot of drugs but cannot do dog fights cuz of the fact that cops are almost always driving through here. Almost everyone here owns a pitt and I have no problems walking mine.
I LOVED that "speech"!! I hate the fact that pit's are accused that way cuz it's NOT the breed, it's the dog owner!! When my Dad was little, his grandmother had a Chihuahua that could have been labeled DANGEROUS.
Hey I totally agree and I saw that episode of man eaters too it made me SOOOOO mad I have a red pit named mabel and shes like a big teddy bear the funny part is the most vicious dog out of the 4 I have is the furry male shea and hes the size of a chichilla literally I hate when they use all pits to reinact a dog attack in my opinion small dogs are the most dangerous out of them all like you said all breeds have the ability to be bad but they can be changed I worked with the micheal vick pits and they are just fine acctually
