Two awesome ideas from the world of disc golf, one combining the sport and human body aspects, one that just looks freaking cool.
1) The drive. When driving for distance, no one looks pretty. On top of that, in order to generate the power necessary to throw for distance one must contort the body in all kinds of ways, transferring forward and spin momentum from your body, through your arm, and into the disc. Further, when the "big dogs" (Avery Jenkins - world distance champion, Dave Feldberg, Geoff Bennett, Steve Brinster) throw for distance, the disc contorts as the momentum is transferred. I could go on for a while about the beauty of a drive...
2) The putt. The crashing chains, in addition to making an awesome and addicting sound, make really awesome patterns. If you're not familiar, the basket (target) is designed to "catch" a putt with chains hanging from a top support. When the disc reaches the basket, the chains take the momentum of the disc to slow it down and help it fall into the basket.
I've got contact with these top pros, who would love to film a segment. Also, several pictures to demonstrate what I'm talking about.
Or, contact the Professional Disc Golf Association at www.pdga.com
man dat be crazy, iaint neva heard of no disk golf dat be wat dos girly boys be playin, they dont play man sports like fotball, bad idea man, dis stinks
Thats a great idea. As a disc golfer who has trouble breaking 400 feet, I would LOVE to see the exact motions the pros go through to get such distance.
Even before Time Warp I wondered what I'm doing wrong and wished I could watch the pros in slow mo.
I just signed in to this site for this show suggestion. A buddy of mine (sorta) just broke his arm throwing a disc. It seriously just broke in half! I bet this stuff in slow mo would look cool. Plus, I can see correct form in a way my stupid head could maybe learn how to do it!
This would be incredible! I'm an active tournament player and the professionals that Marshief mentioned would be some of the best to film as they're extremely talented and throw the farthest of anyone in the sport, especially Avery. Everyone in the sport has always wanted an opportunity to see throwing in super slow mo to see what really is going on. Let's make it happen!!
Looks like I'm not the only one who wants to see disc golf! Also, I noticed that there are several posts on ultimate - maybe they could do a whole segment on various flying disc sports. TRC could even be cool!
As an avid amateur disc golfer, it would be awesome to have this filmed on Time Warp. I love this show, and this could really give us peons some insight on how to improve our technique, and would show some very interesting visual effects as mentioned above with the disc wobble and chain movement.
another thing i would like to see is the disc in flight and how much spin it has and how air travles over and under a disc (like a wind tunnle test like they do with cars) but yes the drive and putt would be cool
i also agree this would be awesome. i love grabbing friends and getting on a disc course every now and then and the pros are all total beast mode. plus if they used that cool amera like in the balloon showing helium and bullett episode you could see awesome air patterns
Putting a disc golf disc through your slow motion capture would be incredible. Seeing a disc fly through normal eyes is a spectacular thing. Imagine seeing it through filming technology. Going from the start of a drive to the first 100 feet would be something everyone would enjoy watching. How the disc will flex just out of pure force would be very interesting and a great show.
