Have any of you had breast cancer reconstruction utilizing silicone 'gummie' implants and if so, how do you like them? I will be starting reconstruction this winter and my plastic surgeon is recommending these new silicone type implants over saline implants.
I am a 19 year breast cancer survivor. I had reconstruction 1 year after I finished chemo and radiation therapy. Because my cancer was so advanced in my diseased breast I had to have a modified radical mastectomy. When I had reconstruction I had the left breast removed even though there was no disease. I did not want to worry constantly about a recurrence. I did have silicone implants put in. At that time that was about all they were using. I have never had any problems with them on either side. I have the kind you never have to massage (pop) daily to keep them soft. I sleep on my stomach without any problems with the implants. If I had it to do all over again I would have the same type of implants inserted. Most times I forget I have implants. Hope this helps.
