Do not stand at my grave and weep,
For I am not there I do not sleep.

I am the thousands winds that blow,
I am the Kalahari's sunset glow.
I am the summers gentle rain,
I am the desert where the pups run and train.
I am the sunlight warming the bushes of thorns,
I am there when each new pup is born.

Of friendly birds in circled flight,
I am the bright stars that shine at night.
When you awaken in the mornings hush,
I am that swift uplifting rush.

So again I say to all of you
Please don't stand at my grave and cry,
For I am not there I did not die.

Signed,
Your leader, your Mother, your friend.

When we lost Flower, it was like losing a "sister." As a mother, I understood her sacrifice, but grieved for the loss. The absence will greatly affect the Whiskers, as she was a model matriarch. With Zaphod gone, I hope she's watching over Rocket Dog and her family. I will miss Flower so much. The Kalahari will never be the same.

To fofiona:

Your right our little Princess of the Kalahari always struggled for love, happiness and acceptance.
Little did she know that she had all that and more from all of us here on the board.

Although Flower wasn't my number one favorite she did what she felt she had to so that her pups would have the best change. At least she allowed Mozarts pups to stay within the family so I guess she had a soft spot in her heart for her grandpups.

Thank you about the poem.

Meerkata, i know flower had to do that. Mozart just had so much hardship in her life. i am not sure how old she was.

you know the most heartbreaking thing was when her family rejected her. i am not sure about the timeline, was it flower or RD that rejected that poor little girl. RIP all meerkats, flower, mozart, kinks, len and sguiggy, carlos. i am still trying to find somewhere to chat live.

FOFI:

Sadly, like so many others, both Flower and RD rejected poor little Mozart. Mozart was technically first "rejected," let's not forget, when Flower evicted her. And it wasn't a typical eviction. Mozart gave birth while in the Whiskers burrow overnight. In the morning, the group assembled early outside of the burrow, and Flower intentionally lead them off before Mozart emerged. She wasn't just leading them out to forage, but was intentionally moving the entire family to a new burrow. And poor little Mozart walked into the sunlight expecting to see her family, and then waiting for a long time thinking they would return. It was only when she had to find food for herself, in order to be capable of feeding her newborn pups, that she left to forage for herself. In that short time is when Nikita (Commando) slipped in and killed the pups. But that was the first "rejection" by her family. Then, of course, we saw last week's episode when returning to the Whiskers seemed the only hope of survival left for Mozart...and they chased her off. That was under RD's leadership, though it was sentries who did it. Probably because her scent would have been that of Carlos, and not Whisker, and she was too far removed from many that would be on sentry to be recognized (though inner-Whiskers might have, had she been able to advance that far). And don't forget that her half-sister Kinkajou technically rejected her. Not necessarily in eating her pups...but when continuing to forage while Mozart was going into labor and calling for the family to go with her back to the burrow. And yet the poor girl laid right there beside that half-sister until her final breaths.

So many meerkats have been lost in the past four years, but there were several pups born just between the Aztecs, Whiskers, and Commandos. Twelve new pups; four for each group.

I agree that Flower would not want us or her family to dwell on losing her. Rather, we are to remember her, but keep on going. Nice poem, Meerkata Smile

Our newest DF is another of Flower's girls. If she and the rest of the group can build the numbers up again, the Whiskers will be around for quite a long time, barring catastrophe. As long as the Whiskers are around, Flower will be with them, along with Mozart, Kinkaju, and many others, both in their genes and in spirit.

Quite a few of her pups have grown up and moved on to join/start other groups. Soon, her bloodline will be all over the Kalahari. You go, Flower!!
