OK, you seem to have tracked down one elusive song on the commercial for the new series, now does anyone know the other? I really like the boys choir version of the song, "Sloop John B". This is the song that goes, "I want to go home." So, who (group) is singing it, and is it available?
I joined just now because I've bashed my brains out against the internet trying to find the damn song they played in that commercial. It's haunting my dreams!!! I was humming it today at Borders while I was going through all the Vienna Choir Boy's CD's I could find. I, of course, didn't find it on any of their CD's which led me to believe someone else -must- have performed the song. I didn't find it listed in their repitoire, but, I could still be wrong. I've limewire'd, bear share'd, napster'ed, alta vista'd and google'd with no luck. This means I'm a moron or I'm missing some piece of the puzzle. If -anyone- finds any information, Please! E-mail me (killislove@Hotmail.com) or IM me at the same address. I appreciate it. Thanks so much.
OK! I can't be positive, but I think it might be The Honley Male Voice Choir. They perform Sloop John B on the CD "The Pride and Passion - 15 Great English Rugby Anthems"
You can buy the cd at Amazon.co.uk. I can't guarantee that this is the version that they use on the commercial, but it's worth a shot for anyone who's interested. Here's a link...
Well, I found several sites selling Honley Male Choir cd with Sloop John B on it but none of them have snippets that you can listen to. So there is no way to tell if this the right song. If anyone can confirm this is the right song, please let us know.
I found a picture of the Honley Choir and I think they are all oldish guys. I dont think they are able to sound like a boy/girl as they do on the commercial. Therefor, they may not be the right singers.....;_;
Are you looking under any of it's alternate titles? Since it's actually an old folk tune - long before the Beach Boys got hold of it - it's also known as 'John B Sails' and 'Wreck of the John B'- it might even be listed just as "Bahamian Folk Tune".
EDIT:According to this articleThe Discovery Channel did have a recording session with The Vienna Boys Choir in connection with a Travel Journal episode on Vienna, that MAY have included this song, in which case Discovery would have control of the recording. However they are making another of thier promo songs available soon (the 'Run to You' song) due to the stir in the forums and such - perhaps they would do the same for this??

I'm now convinced that it's The London Welsh Male Voice Choir. I've actually narrowed it down (I have so many versions of the damn song now... The Beach Boys, The Kingston Trio, Peter Paul and Mary's, a rock version, a quasi-techno version and, alas The Honley Choir version. It's not that one. The London Male Voice Choir's version I found on Limewire. But, of course, I'm 'awaiting sources.' If any one else has limewire give it a shot. If I get it first, I'll post it on my website and link you guys to it. Good hunting (I have entirely too much time on my hands...)
Thank goodness that I'm not the only one wracking my brains out on this song. I'm hoping that someone from Discovery could help us out here with an anwer.

That would be great! I would actually buy a copy. I don't think it's the Male Welsh Choir. Those are older men, and the version is definitely sung by a boys choir. It's an experienced one too--you can tell by the crispness and balance.
Hello! I wanted to join and show my support for them releasing a copy of the song that is actually on the commercial to us. I know that everyone else is looking too, but I figure the more support the idea gets the more likely it is!
It's good to see so many other people going nuts trying to find this song lol.
I've got like eight versions of it, and none of them are the right one.
The Vienna Boys Choir seems like it's probably the right one though. I've emailed Discovery requesting a way to get this song, I think if we all do that, they will be more likely to release it.
Otherwise I am going to compile a loop off the commercials. It'll be better than nothing.

I also wanted to show my support for releasing this song. This along with Run to You by Amanda are just great songs. Better than anything that is on the radio now adays. Keep em coming
